Did You Know...

... that last weekend's meets generated the year's first cross-league leaderboard?

World champion in 4-way Women of 2008: Sarah Smith
posted May 12th, 2015 - Several indoor and outdoor leaderboards have been on SKYLEAGUE.COM's scores pages this year. The indoor leaderboards have naturally been dominating so far, as the winter season is the perfect opportunity for teams to test their competition skills in flying chambers all over the planet.

The outdoor meets that are scheduled earlier in the calendar year are still running a higher risk of weather troubles. In fact, a few of those early 2015 meets became victims of the weather (Czech Republic, Slovenia), and the teams at the season opener of the Southern California Skydiving League in Elsinore were facing bad weather conditions last weekend, as well.

The weather was much better in Northern California, where six teams completed six rounds in Lodi. However, the first showdown between the two leagues in California is postponed and will hopefully take place on June 13th.

Watching the clouds in Virginia: Visual Klarity
Even without the SCSL teams, last weekend successfully generated the first mixed leaderboard this year, and teams from three different events (Arizona, Northern California, Virginia) can compare their scores with each other.

The Arizona Skydiving League is planning a comeback this year, and the first step was made last weekend when former British world champion in 4-way Women, Sarah Smith, guided her team Pat For 5 through the six AAA Class rounds in Eloy.

Pat For 5 did not have any direct or indirect opponents in the AAA Class, however, Sarah Smith knew that her team's scores would be posted, which caused at least some of the additional meet pressure. Sarah Smith said that it was still "a great opportunity to fly together and see where we are in our training plan". Pat For 5 completed four hours of tunnel time in Eloy and one training jump before the six meet rounds.

Perfect weather in Lodi: A Class winner Last Minute
Interesting cross-league competition took place in the AA Class, where Team Name of the Northern California Skydiving League dominated the 6-round leaderboard. Only Counterpoint FX, with NCSL Director Lori Connor in the lineup, managed to steal one of the AA Class highscores in Round 6.

Elizabeth Kang had three AA Class teams at Skydive Orange, who managed to complete three rounds, despite a bad weather forecast and cloudy conditions. It turned out that two VPC teams and Counterpoint FX were in an exciting battle for the 2nd place after Round 3.

Elizabeth Kang said that her winning team, No Stix, was a set of four AFF instructors from Orange. The team in 2nd place, Visual Klarity, was a combination of skydivers from Chambersburg and Orange. She gave her team in 3rd place credit for putting the lineup together in the last minute: "It was a pick-up team who had a great time learning to fly." She also thanked the various videographers, including one of the 4-way competitors, who helped to cover the pick-up team.

9-point tie-breaker in Round 2: Semaphore
The A Class competition for the 1st place was just as close between three NCSL teams as the cross-league race was for the 2nd place in the AA Class. Semaphore won the 2nd place after the tied total with the highest score over the Moisties in Round 2.

The three teams on the top exchanged highscores round by round, and Flair Flare was not that far behind either.

Lori Connor eventually had two teams tied in 2nd place. She said that all of her A Class teams came from the Rookie Class of the 2014 meets:

"They attended the skill camps and most of the iFLY SFBay indoor tunnel events. The A Class teams all did their four jumps with many doing the A Class blocks for the first time."

Her NCSL coaches Julius and Deanna Frank competed with Team Name in the AA Class and provided assistance for the A Class teams at the creeper pad and the mock-up.
