Did You Know...

... that the most experienced A Class team finished on top of last weekend's leaderboard?

Fun Sponge in 2012
posted Jun 26th, 2015 - Last weekend's A Class competition was not as clearly dominated by US teams as it was in the AA Class. The teams in the Top 4 positions competed at four different locations: Northwest (USA) - Netheravon (United Kingdom) - Florida (USA) - Tomscat (Netherlands).

The final rankings on the overall leaderboard were determined after four rounds, as well as in the AA Class, where teams in Florida were stopped after Round 4. There were several moves on the leaderboard, and GravitonZ had the biggest one up the rankings, from 6th to 3rd place.

The A Class winner, Northwest Skydiving League team Fun Sponge, is the team with the longest 4-way history. The team name appeared on the NSL leaderboard the first time in July 2012, and Fun Sponge is now in the team's fourth year in the same category, with a consistent performance level around 10.0 average.

Fun Sponge in 2013
The four Fun Sponge members of 2014 returned this year with a new videographer, Dmitry Rudchenko. Deb Correia said that her team did several sessions at the iFLY Seattle wind tunnel over the winter and had two outdoor practice days before the competition last weekend.

She was very pleased with her team's performance and the 9.2 average. Fun Sponge had to digest several video busts, which kept the average below the 10+ level.

The Northwest Skydiving League had a second team on the A Class leaderboard. Das Booties was formed this year by Indoor Cloud League participants at iFLY Seattle. Das Booties had to replace a team mate prior to the meet, when Isaac Bahr dislocated his ankle.

Coach Jeff Smith stepped in to fill the slot. In addition to the Indoor Cloud League events, the Das Booties members also had some indoor training with coach David Zhang, who was competitng with RainAir last weekend. The new outdoor competitors started the team career with a 5.2 average after all six rounds, and in 14th place after Round 4.

Deb Correia also pointed out that she had another new team on the Rookie Class leaderboard:

"Low Key was formed by Nat Mote, Daniel Larson, Pat Chapman and Ron Hensley, with Garren Hahn on video. They competed at Skydive Kapowsin, submitting their videos via YouTube. Judge Bill Selig reported that the videos were difficult to judge due to the distance from the formation, and that most likely the team did better than their average of 3.8 reflects."
