Did You Know...

... that French Girls and Golden Knights connect in a friendly rivalry?

Golden Knights with coach Solly Williams in Prostejov 2014
posted Jul 10th, 2015 - The first scores of the complete new French Girls lineup at the Coupe de France competition last weekend continues to be in the center of the Sun Path Products NSL News attention.

This time, Golden Knights coach Solly Williams presents the perspective from the US Army position. He has observed the progression of the Golden Knights and the team's pursuit of the top spot in 4-way Women for several years before he became directly involved in 2014.

The Sun Path Products NSL News invited Solly Williams to discuss the French scores in the DeLand office live on NSL-TV. He accepted without hesitation, as he knows that his team and the French Girls have been communicating with each other as a part of this "healthy rivalry", as Solly Williams defined the relationship between the two teams.

Solly Williams acknowledged that the Golden Knights have actually moved into the current pole position, despite the fact that the US Army team has outscored any of the French national lineups only once in 2012 since the team was formed in 2011.

The situation changed after both teams have been finishing very close to each other in the recent years, and the French Girls had the next personnel change at the end of the 2014 season after winning another set of gold medals in Prostejov. The Golden Knights came back with the same lineup for the 2015 season, and also again with coach Solly Williams.

The French Girls are also transitioning to their third coach within a year. Marin Ferre won the gold medals in 4-way Women as the team's coach in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Then he began to work with the French 4-way Open Class team, while Jérémie Rollett continued with the new French Girls lineup. Mathieu Bernier now takes over, as the Sun Path Products NSL News reported on Wednesday.

Friendly rivalry: French Girls and Golden Knights at the World Cup 2013
However, the new and unusual "pole position" for the Golden Knights does not change the determination of the team and coach Solly Williams. He had evaluated the new scores from France and was impressed enough with the numbers. He knows how difficult it is to get to the 20-average level, and a few additional observations puts the French scores even more in perspective.

He pointed out that the French Girls' scoring level would even be significantly higher if they had performed in the last three rounds as they did in the first half. Just tying the scores of Artemis Espoir Saumur in Rounds 6 - 8 would have lifted the meet average to 20.6 after eight rounds. The French Girls had outscored the French national B-Team by eight points through Round 5.

In other words, the new French Girls are not really that far away from the winning average at the world meet in Prostejov last year. Solly Williams and the Golden Knights will know exactly where they are standing next week. They will be back in training, and they can't wait to copy the French competition draw...
