Did You Know...

... that Northwest and Florida battled hard in the AA Class?

JOES exit with the new lineup
posted Aug 17th, 2015 - The French 4-way teams had the AAA Class leaderboard for themselves last week, and there was not much serious competition for the top spots between the three medal winners. That was completely different in the AA Class, where teams from the Florida and the Northwest Skydiving League had two tight battles for the 1st and the 3rd place.

The first duel took place between the JOES from the Northwest and DeLand Flashpoint from Florida, and it ended with a 2-point advantage for the DeLand team. The videos of both teams are showing how it happened.

The JOES and DeLand Flashpoint are both trying to get ready to compete for AA/Intermediate Class medals at the USPA Nationals 2015, and they are using the NWSL and FSL meets to collect competition experiences and check the current status of the progression under meet conditions. Both teams have the potential to get into medal contention and have enough time to clean up their performances. In the past years, an 11+ average was necessary to win a medal at the USPA Nationals in this category.

DeLand Flashpoint with coach Gilles Dutrisac in Round 1
Deb Correia reported from the Northwest Skydiving League that she had a very successful meet on Sunday, August 16th, with cloudy skies that cleared early enough to get in almost all of the jumps for the eight teams in her region.

The JOES competed without Dave Correia for the first time. As the Sun Path Products NSL News reported on August 1st, Andrew Gaiovyi is now taking his Inside Center slot.

Dave Correia provided ground coaching for Das Booties and Ritzville Sundown, after stepping down from JOES. Last weekend's lineup will now compete at the USPA Nationals.

DeLand Flashpoint's complete lineup at work
DeLand Flashpoint started with coach Gilles Dutrisac in Round 1, who stepped back when Inside Center Jim Prochaska's suffering back was ready for action.

He took his slot for the other seven rounds that Flashpoint completed. The DeLand team was planning for ten rounds and was stopped early by Florida summer weather on Sunday.

The other battle was even closer, as RainAir and Purple HaZe were separated by only one single point after six rounds.

RainAir competed with the same lineup as in June and July and needed the team's best 2015 average to end up one point ahead of Purple HaZe.

The Z-Hills team had the complete lineup with Tail John Stares available for only the second time this year, which enabled Sally Hathaway to step down and coach from the outside for a change. She was filling slots for Purple HaZe at two earlier meets this year.

Judge Bob Byrne reported that "Purple HaZe had some issues losing grips during inters in the early going, but hit their stride after a couple of jumps together".

Last weekend's A Class and Rookie Class events featured similar battles between teams of the two leagues, and the Sun Path Products NSL News will follow up with more details.
