Did You Know...

... that it was a colorful 2015 season for Voodoo and the BPA?

Voodoo lineup at the world meet in Spain 2001
posted Nov 1st, 2015 - Voodoo's team page shows a colorful history that goes back to the 2008 season, even though Voodoo was formed even much earlier. Colin Rothman, who is currently competing with Jazz Republic, formed the team in 1998. Vinca Cox, Johan van Aswegen and Julian Boulle were in the very first lineup.

Troy Marias, Bailey Edmunds and Dennis Parker continued with Colin Rothman after the world meet in Australia 1999 until Vana Parker replaced Troy Marias in 2003. Airspeed Tail Thiago Gomes trained and competed with Colin Rothman, Vana Parker and Dave Sumter in 2004.

Amy Kirtland, currently Savolo member, had her time with the same 3-way in 2006 - 2010. Dennis Parker, Colin Rothman, Vana Parker and Dave Sumter had three years together, and the 4th slot has been open after Colin Rothman left Voodoo after the World Challenge 2013.

Dennis Parker, Vana Parker and Dave Sumter also had a colorful list of team mates since 2013: Gary Smith, Liz Matthews and Steve Hamilton have helped to keep Voodoo on the same performance and scoring level. Voodoo with Liz Matthews even won the UK Nationals 2014 and were the official UK national team in 4-way Open for the 2015 season.

Voodoo started off this year with Gary Smith at the Wind Games 2015 (22.4) and followed up with 23.7 at the World Challenge 2015.

The Sun Path Products NSL News then reported on April 21st that there were only little chances for Voodoo to continue this year since Vana Parker had to undergo a surgery on her ankle that was overdue.

Voodoo was not even sure about the future. The UK national team did not try to defend the UK title without Vana Parker, and Satori XL won the national championships with a 20.7 average.

However, Voodoo did have a comeback this year, five months after the last indoor competition in Bedford. Dennis Parker, Vana Parker and Dave Sumter were back at the same place for this year's Bodyflight Revenge, this time with Steve Hamilton in the 4th slot.

The comeback was successful, as Voodoo did not stop there. The same lineup competed a month later at the 1st FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championships, where they went straight into a tough battle for the last slot in the finals. Voodoo ended up in 7th place, and it was still the biggest success for the team at a major international event.

It was also a colorful year for the British Parachute Association (BPA) who sanctions the teams for the international FAI events. Voodoo was officially the British national team after winning the UK Nationals 2014 and could not compete at the FAI World Cup 2015. 4mula represented the United Kingdom in Teuge and finished in 5th place with a 17.5 average.

Voodoo had BPA's approval for the 1st FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championships and came back from Prague with the 7th place and a 22.9 average.

Neither Satori XL nor 4mula have the World Air Games 2015 in Dubai on their agenda, and UK's 2015 bronze medalist Vision 99 will be the national 4-way team next month. It might be easier for BPA next year, as Satori XL is making serious plans for the world meet season...
