Did You Know...

... that teams of the Southern California Skydiving League placed high at the USPA Nationals?

Player coach Dan BC, here with Regan Tetlow
posted Nov 3rd, 2015 - The final leaderboard on the SKYLEAGUE.COM event page of the AAA/Advanced Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2015 does not show the correct rankings, as the scores of the extra round is added to the total number of points after ten rounds.

Only the general scores page calculates the rankings according to the meet average and has the teams in proper order.

Event Horizon and Perris Dauntless Five had to break their tie after Round 10 with an extra jump-off round. Both teams then scored 10-pointers, both after one point deduction each. The new tie had to be broken by the latest rules for such a situation. Dauntless completed the last scoring formation earlier than Event Horizon and won the bronze medals.

The four top teams in the Advanced Class had four different kinds of lineups and roads to the USPA medals. Air Force Smolder's 1st place is just another top result of the Air Force Academy's medal factory in Colorado.

There has been a change though. Coach Bill Wenger has retired, and the Air Force found a very experienced successor with Andy Honigbaum, former Golden Knights member and 8-way world champion of 2004 with Arizona Airspeed, Andy Honigbaum, launched his coaching job with a gold medal in 4-way Advanced, a bronze medal in 4-way Intermediate and another gold medal in 8-way Intermediate. It was one of the the most successful medal collections for the Air Force Academy.

Perris Quattro in 2nd place and Perris Dauntless Five in 3rd place had their world class player coaches in common. The Sun Path Products NSL News had introduced Perris Quattro with the story on August 6th, and it was no surprise that Airspeed world champion of 2012, Josh Hall, would guide the team into medal contention.

Player coach Josh Hall, here with Chris Farina
Perris Quattro had attended two meets of the Southern California Skydiving League this year and peaked at the USPA Nationals.

Perris Dauntless Five had original Airspeed member Dan BC in the lineup. He stepped in since player coach Christy Frikken was not available at the national championships. She had a big job on her hands trying to defeat Arizona Airspeed as SDC Rhythm XP's inside center. Josh Hall won this internal Airspeed duel with Dan BC.

Event Horizon trained and competed without a player coach and ended up behind the player coaches in 4th place after the jump-off round. The team had attended the same SCSL meet in September where Perris Quattro competed. Josh Hall is directing the activities of the Southern California Skydiving League, together with Yvonne "Yo" Owyeong, and their teams did very well at the USPA Nationals 2015, including the Advanced Class silver medals. Congratulations.
