Did You Know...

... that 4-way junior Kalle Pohjola moved from Tail to Point?

Pro Team Extended
posted May 5th, 2016 - The A Class leaderboard of the World Challenge 2016 was the most diversified and literally the most colorful one.

The Sun Path Products NSL News added the color red to the leaderboard that was posted with the story on April 12th. The first three colors helped to identify the A Class teams by gender (all-male: blue, all-female: magenta, mixed-gender: yellow).

The fourth color red now marks the teams with 4-way juniors in the lineup. HF Junior Flies and Aerokart Ak'demie consisted only of kids and teenagers, while Jirina Klapkova was a senior member in the HF Junior Cubs lineup in Bedford. She usually trains and competes with the CZ Ladies and filled a slot for a missing Cubs junior member.

The Pro Team Extended had only one 4-way junior in the lineup, Kalle Pohjola, who won the A Class competition with his parents Outi and Kimmo Pohjola, plus Juho Mikkola.

The Pro Team story at SKYLEAGUE.COM began in 2004 when the team's first scores (7.9) were posted after Finland's national championships. Kimmo Pohjola explained in the live interview with the Pro Team Extended in Bedford that the team was actually formed even earlier. His son Kalle was two years old by then.

However, the Pro team name received a little bit more attention after traveling to Sweden for a competition in 2007.

The Pro Team peaked with a 20.4 average at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Menzelinsk 2010 in 10th place and continued casually after a few personnel changes.

Pro Team Extended at the World Challenge 2016
Kalle Pohjola made his first trip to Bedford as a 10-year old team fan in 2010, and the Pro Team was finally extended in 2013. Parents Outi and Kimmo Pohjola had prepared 12-year old son Kalle well to compete at the World Challenge 2013. 2010 member Eija Suvala, who is now training and competing with Finland's current national 4-way team Tigers, completed the first lineup of the Pro Team Extended.

The Sun Path Products NSL News provided more details of the 2013 lineup on during the aftermath of the World Challenge 2013 on May 7th, 2013. The Pro Team Extended with Kalle Pohjola in the Tail slot had won the Rookie Class competition with a 39.1 average.

Another team from Finland, Heroes of the Arctic Circle, had won the A Class competition and left all other teams in this category in the snow, as well. It was a great World Challenge for Finland, or even for Lapland, the northern part of Finland and Scandinavia. Kalle Pohjola was the only 4-way junior on the whole leaderboard in 2013.

It was easy to find the Finnish youngster in the video of 2013, as he was still significantly smaller than his team mates. This was completely different at the World Challenge 2016. He has caught up with his parents as a 16-year old teenager.

He has also made it more difficult to identify him on this year's video, as he is not in the Tail slot any longer. Former Pro Team alternate Juho Mikkola has taken his 2013 slot, and Kalle Pohjola is now the Pro Team Point.

His Point performance was just as impressive in the A Class as it was in the Rookie Class of 2013, and Pro Team Extended's new lineup finished once again far ahead of the rest of the field. Only NMP PCH HayaBusa posted a higher 10-round average. The AA Class dive pool is next for Kalle Pohjola, and he has a lot of new homework to do. That's not a problem in Rovaniemi where the winters are very long and the winter days very short...
