Did You Know...

... that the NSL Championship 2016 combines once again indoor and outdoor competition?

NSL Outdoor Championship 2014
posted Nov 28th, 2016 - It happened in 2014 that the last outdoor competition of the year in Florida, the NSL Championship at Skydive DeLand, was not supported well by the November weather.

Nine teams were ready to add some more scores to the records before the winter break, and only four of the teams braved the weather and completed at least three rounds. The ground time on Friday and Saturday was too long, and alternative ideas were discussed.

Teams, competitors and meet organizers eventually agreed to give up hopes for better skydiving weather and dropped the missing outdoor rounds. However, the meet weekend was still not given up completely, even though the jump planes were parked in the hangars. The visiting teams wanted 4-way action and decided to move the meet to iFLY Orlando. Flying time was available, and an indoor meet schedule was created quickly.

Foxtrot with 8-way world champion Andrew Starr
Eight of the nine teams transitioned to iFLY Orlando on Saturday afternoon, and some of the team videographers formed their own lineup for the meet. All teams completed a 6-round competition, and the NSL Indoor Championship took place for the first time.

The field of teams included Evolution member Martin Lemay who replaced 8-way world champion Andrew Starr of the Golden Knights for Foxtrot after the transition of the meet to iFLY Orlando. Zhills TranZend competed with two of the Zhills PreciZion members (Erica Gorski, Rebecca Maureen) who won USPA Intermediate Class gold medals this year. Jimmy Xu was in the Rookie Class team DeLand 3D who won the NSL gold medals with a 20.8 average. USPA 2016 gold medal player coach Sally Hathaway was live judging the indoor competition.

SDC Rhemix XP finished right behind the Zhills team at iFLY Orlando, which was exactly the same outcome as at the USPA Nationals 2016. Both teams had different lineups this year though.

NSL Indoor Championship 2014
iFLY Orlando has been hosting Indoor Cloud League events and the FSL Tunnel Kicker training for 4-way teams for a few years, and the NSL Indoor Championship 2016 is once again a result of unexpected changes, even though the weather was not a factor this time.

The Florida indoor schedule for December allows participating teams and competitors to enjoy indoor and outdoor competition on the same weekend (December 18 - 20). This time, the six indoor rounds will be held on Friday evening at iFLY Orlando, and the outdoor competition will follow on Saturday and Sunday.

All teams will face only sequences of random formations (6 - 5 - 4 - 3) in all four categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR) in the 12-foot flying chamber, while the complete dive pools will be used for the outdoor competition at Skydive DeLand. It will be a busy weekend with a lot of indoor and outdoor fun...
