Did You Know...

... that 4-way twin juniors Noah and Caleb Thornquest continue to collect ICL points for iFLY Sacramento?

Lori Connor with Matt Stephens, Noah and Caleb Thornquest
posted Dec 2nd, 2016 - The Sun Path Products NSL News reported the Indoor Cloud League November scores from iFLY Sacramento with the update on November 20th.

NCSL Director Lori Connor had mentioned that her ICL team might not be done yet with the November leaderboard. She was hoping that upcoming flying sessions may generate additional videos and scores and improve the November total. 4-way juniors Noah and Caleb Thornquest have training sessions with coach Matt Stephens scheduled in November, and they could beat the current highscores.

Her prediction was correct, as the two young 4-way twin brothers improved the 12-pointer for the A Class sequences by three points. Lori Connor used the opportunity to introduce Noah and Caleb Thornquest with more information and details of their flying career.

New A Class highscore for November

4-way Juniors Noah and Caleb Thornquest - Written by Lori Connor

Congratulations to Noah Thornquest, Caleb Thornquest, Nick Armstrong and Coach Matt Stephens for submitting a new highscore in A Class on behalf of iFLY Sacramento's participation in the NSL's November Indoor Cloud League competition.

The team headed to the tunnel on their own last week on November 23rd, and did a few rotations of the November RRR and A Class sequences. Their RRR score of 21 was not high enough to take the lead away from the high-scoring team consisting of Russ Hebert, Clynton Hebert, Abbie Crews and Matt Stephens, who flew 22 points at the November 17 Tunnel Kicker. However, they did take the A Class with their 15-point round.

There is a great story behind Noah and Caleb's participation with the NCSL since the iFLY Sacramento tunnel opened in May this year. The twins have regularly been participating with the NCSL at the monthly Tunnel Kickers. They posted RR Class highscores in June with 40 points and 42 points for the R Class sequence, then scored 29 points in September's RRR Class and 20 points in October's A Class. Videos of their highscores in June, September, October and November with the NCSL can be found on the NCSL YouTube channel.

Noah and Caleb Thornquest with mother Valerie
Noah and Caleb are very much encouraged and supported by their mother Valerie Armstrong and stepfather Nick Armstrong. It's been a pleasure to have the family attend the NCSL events because it's so nice to see a family close and to share the same passion.

Indoor skydiving allows the family to have that common ground and it's something that we would like to promote and see more of at the NCSL events at iFLY Sacramento. According to their mother Valerie, the story of the boys' progression is as follows:

"The first time they flew was in 2009, seven years ago at the age of nine. When they first started out there was no real focus other than to have fun and hopefully learn some things along the way. After a couple of years of flying off and on, we had to come to a decision point as to whether we would switch gears and start focusing on getting some coaching and working towards a goal of competing. A big challenge for us though was the 2-hour (with no traffic) drive to the bay to go fly. It limited the amount of flying and training we could do, and so when the tunnel in Roseville opened the boys have been flying every week since, and it has been amazing to watch their growth just in the last 6 months."

Not only freeflying: Noah and Caleb Thornquest in action
Noah and Caleb Thornquest recently took the 1st place in the Global Kids Challenge in FS Intermediate.

They worked hard with Matt Stephens to really refine their skills. Also, being able to participate in the NCSL events gave them the opportunity to fly with other people and learn 4 way FS. Valerie said that she thinks what is really just amazing is that the boys are really good all-around flyers. They have been taught the importance of not just being a good freeflyer, but also being a good belly flyer. This is why they are able to compete in FS and VFS both.

The list of Noah and Caleb Thornquest's accomplishments to date include: 2015 gold medals at iFly SF Bay's "Bay Brawl" in 2-way Intermediate VFS and Gold Youth Competition, 5th place at the IBA National Kids Competition 2015, 2-way FS gold at the IBA Global Kids Challenge 2016. Congratulations again to Noah and Caleb. We are all truly amazed at your accomplishments to date and look forward to seeing many more.
