Did You Know...

... that Jeff Ronzevalle and Stéphane Mattoni added the Monaco Tunnel Team to the project lineups?

Noene Mandelieu in 2006
posted Dec 14th, 2016 - The former members of the French national 8-way teams between 1986 and 1992, who came back for the 4-way team from Monaco in 2007, have made the Sun Path Products NSL News headlines many times. The first story was posted on May 18th, 2007, which introduced the first lineup of the Monaco Parachute Team.

The comeback actually happened even earlier, as the same lineup competed under Noene Mandelieu for France in 2006 and 2007. Original members Jeff Ronzevalle and Didier Boignon acquired support by the sovereign city-state of Monaco and their 4-way and 8-way lineups became Monaco's national teams.

Monaco competed the first time under the new name in June 2007 and was on last month's leaderboard of the ISR Grand Prix 2016, almost nine years later. The team name in Roosendaal was Monaco Tunnel Team, original members Jeff Ronzevalle and Stephane Mattoni are still in the lineup, and the junp suits are still red.

"Old Monaco 4-way school" in 2007
It has not been easy for the Monaco team to find recognition as a national team by FAI/IPC, as Monaco is often considered a part of France, and the team members competed for France at world meets and world cups between 1986 and 1992.

However, Monaco eventually had its own 4-way team on the leaderboard of the FAI Mondial 2012 in Dubai and added an 8-way lineup to the project in 2013. The 8-way team even won silver medals at the 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship 2013.

The eligibility status of the Monaco team is still in question whenever it comes to FAI/IPC events. No Monaco teams competed at the world meets in Prostejov 2014 or this year's Mondial 2016, although the reasons were different. Monaco did not even try to attend the world meets, as the team did not train much and did not feel prepared well enough.

Monaco team at the FAI Mondial Dubai 2012
Monaco has recently worked on the transition from the "old school" of 4-way skills to the modern art of 4-way competition. Original member Jeff Ronzevalle said that it was hard work. However, the results of the indoor training are showing, as Monaco recently finished with a new indoor team record average of 21.0 in Roosendaal.

The event was the 5th consecutive indoor competition for the Monaco Tunnel Team since November 2015. Monaco competed at the French Nationals 2015 and focused only on indoor training and competition after that.

Jeff Ronzevalle and Stéphane Mattoni also have two new team members in the Monaco Tunnel Team lineup, who joined the team first time at the World Challenge 2016 and have been in the lineup at the other two indoor events ever since.

Newest Monaco generation: Victoire Fromantin in action
Nicolas David was a member of the French national 8-way team in 2014 and 2014. He has taken the player-coach position for Monaco and is in charge of "modernizing" the team's flying style.

Victoire Fromantin represents the newest generation of French Formation Skydiving competitors in the Monaco lineup. She started skydiving in November 2014 with an AFF course after six tandem jumps. Then she discovered wind tunnels with some friends and started with 4-way training.

Her first 4-way competition was the ISR Grand Prix 2015 where she competed with the Skygirls in the AA Class for an 18.1 average. A year later she was back at the same place, and this time with a 21.0 average in the AAA Class. The Monaco Tunnel Team will continue to attend indoor events, while Monaco Parachute Team will come back for more outdoor competition.
