Did You Know...

... that Chymos/Max 4/Blackjack from Finland had a comeback after a 20-year break?

Sirius Sport Resort in Finland
posted Apr 2nd, 2017 - The latest indoor scores have come from Finland, where the Sirius Sport Resort hosted the national indoor championships, a wind tunnel half way between Helsinki and the Russian border.

Seven Finish teams attended the competition, and Telakka won in the AAA Class for the first time without any opposing teams, as the champions of 2015 and 2016, the Tigers, did not try to defend their title.

Telakka had originally planned to compete again at the World Challenge 2017 and withdrew when both events happened to be so close to each other on two following weekends. However, Finland will be represented in Bedford by the Pro Team, who did not attend the national indoor championships.

Tempo won the AA Class competition by improving the team's outdoor average by exactly 10.0 points, from 8.4 at the national outdoor championships in July 2016 to 18.4 this weekend. It was exactly the same lineup that had posted the 8.4 average last year.

10-point increase from outdoor to indoor: Tempo
The story of the meet in Finland is A Class team Blackjack. Three of the team members (Matthew Iles, Oscar Salonaho, Vesa Vuorenkoski) trained and competed with Jukka Tanninen in the lineup for Chymos in 1994.

Chymos continued in 1995 with Repe Kortesalmi for Jukka Tanninen in the lineup and became one of the top teams in Finland. 1995 member Reijo Kortesalmi competed this weekend, as well, but with another team (Helinäkeijut).

Matthew Iles, Vesa Vuorenkoski and Mika Rautiainen continued with Marko Tiainen in 1996 and eventually won the national championships with Max 4. The same lineup represented Finland as the national team in 4-way Open at the FAI World Meet 1997 in Turkey, made it to the semifinals and finished in 14th place with a 13.6 average.

Max 4 concluded the team career with a 14.6 average at the Finish Nationals 1997 where they posted a new highscore for a single round with a 24-pointer. All team members then retired and continued their lives with family time and work careers.

20 years later: Blackjack/Max 4/Chymos
Max 4 is now Blackjack and had a comeback in the A Class 20 years later.

It's only a re-start for Blackjack, and the team plans to move back into the AAA Class soon. The idea of the re-union became reality in November 2016, and Blackjack has completed five hours of indoor training at Sirius ever since.

The same 1997/2017 lineup plans to complete 20 hours before posting the next scores on the AAA Class leaderboard. The 16.8 average in the A Class will most likely turn into the same numbers or even higher in the FAI Open Class category.

Blackjack has no plans for an outdoor comeback, and the Finish Indoor Nationals 2017 was the first competition for the 1997/2017 lineup. However, the Finish team will attend more indoor meets in the near future and travel to some of the major signature meets. Welcome back, Chymos/Max 4/Blackjack...
