Did You Know...

... that Team Blue of the Dutch 20+ project is a combination of talent and experience?

Team Out of the Blue in tunnel action
posted Jun 19th, 2017 - The Dutch Formation Skydiving Project 20+ was introduced by the Sun Path Products NSL News on 5 January 2017, and an update with more information followed on 30 May 2017.

The second story focused mostly on the signature team of the 4-way project in the Netherlands, Team Orange, with organizers Erwin van den Braak and Alex Egberink in the lineup, plus former Thunder ISR members Jacco van Eerden and Paul Hofstee, Jeroen van Dijk on camera.

Even though Team Orange is primarily focused on the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia they will still attend the annual Tomscat Trophy, which is scheduled for the July 1 weekend. Team Blue will compete at the same event, as well. Both teams also have the national championships in September on their meet agenda.

The focus on the world meet in 2018 naturally includes the qualification event in September. Team Orange wants to perform well and achieve the short-term goal with a good performance. The team is aware of the late start and does not expect the 20+ average this year. Fine-tuning the block techniques is more important than speed and scores before the nationals.

This new Project 20+ update now provides more details of the other teams that have been selected and committed to the training and management plans.

Team Blue competes at the Tomscat Trophy and the Nationals and has also signed up for the FAI World Cup 2017 in Saarlouis to collect additional meet experiences and finish with the peak performance of the 2017 season. Training camps are scheduled between the meets.

Blue members Mechie Voermans and Leon van Leeuwen know each other very well. They have been 4-way team mates since 2005, first with Whooops, then with M4trix, and they also trained and competed with M8trix, the Dutch national 8-way team until 2015.

Danny Dorfel comes from Murphy Mania, who started in the Dutch Rookie Class of 2008, and joined other weekend teams whenever there was an opportunity. He has worked as an AFF instructor and tandem master and is now focusing more on 4-way training and competition.

Mandy Feijen is the 4th Team Blue member with a special skydiving history. She was born in the Netherlands and has jumped only in Belgium so far, as she is living near the border. She has trained with local Belgian 4-way and 8-way teams and spent tunnel time in Liege.

The project organizers learned about her from Thunder ISR members and coach Roy Janssen, and Team Blue has now become her first Dutch team. Ralf Pijnenburg and Rick Verbunt are the two members of the indoor lineup. Ralf Pijnenburg was on the same Belgian 8-way team that Mandy Feijen trained and competed with.

Team Red is the lineup on the lowest experience level. The Project 20+ organizers hope that Team Red will be ready to attend their first competition in the Rookie or A Class at the national championships, despite very low jump numbers of the team members, some even less than 30 total. Team Red is the start-up project for a completely new generation of new Dutch 4-way competitors, with the full support of and coaching by the 4-way veterans, including project coach Roy Janssen.

Team Red's Jacky Cortel has his own special 4-way story. His father Peter Cortel was on Dutch 4-way teams in the mid-90s, together with Bert Hajee who eventually connected with Thunder ISR and Team Orange member Paul Hofstee...
