Did You Know...

... that Satori XL has two very powerful lineups?

Satori XL 2016 lineup
posted Jul 4th, 2017 - The recent updates from the United Kingdom began on 27 June 2017 when 4mula's player coach Joey Jones informed the Sun Path Products NSL News of a change in his team's lineup. The story on 28 June followed up with another personnel change, this time for Chimera.

Joey Jones had mentioned that Satori XL is not facing serious opposition at the UK Nationals 2017 after the 4mula changes and will most likely compete for the United Kingdom at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia.

However, Satori XL themselves have their own personnel change before the national championships, as the team's inside center John McIver explained in an official team update:

"After a long break following the World Championships in Chicago, Satori XL is planning to return with a late training plan approaching the UK Nationals.

"Lots has happened in the break, including Jules having her second child - Elliot (congratulations James and Jules!), and she has decided to take some time out. I have been recovering from rotator cuff surgery but now getting strong and ready for training.

"For 2017 the lineup is Pete Allum (Point), Steve Hamilton (OC), John McIver (IC) and Ady King (Tail) And Rich Orford (Camera)."

XL reunion at the FAI Mondial 2016
It is the first complete Satori season that original team member Julia Swallow is missing. She had formed the team in 2008, together with Aaron Faith (Tail), Liz Matthews (Inside Center), Katie Woods (Point) and Ian Ridpath on camera. John McIver joined Satori in 2009 and has been with the team ever since.

The team name changed to Satori XL when Pete Allum joined the team in 2015. John McIver and Pete Allum have been team mates since Sebastian XL was formed in the 90s. New Satori member Steve Hamilton joined Sebastian XL in 2001 and competed together with John McIver and Pete Allum at two world meets in 2001 and 2003.

The new Satori lineup brings them back together at this year's national championships and most likely at their next world meet in Australia 2018.

Steve Hamilton, John McIver and Pete Allum have also been connecting with each other as very close friends and team mates when they were on different teams. The annual World Challenge offered opportunities for reunions whenever the three different team agendas allowed it.

Scoring progression and placing of British 4-way Open Class teams at FAI World Meets since 1985
Original Satori lineup in 2008 with Katie Woods
The XL/Satori 3-way competed together at the World Challenge in 2007, 2009 and 2013 while Pete Allum and Steve Hamilton had additional XL reunions in Bedford with other lineups. New Satori member Ady King, who trained and competed with the British national 4-way team of 2014, Vision 99, finds a convenient situation with a very well-tuned 3-way at his Satori XL starting point.

It is no surprise that Joey Jones cannot imagine that any British team would be able to offer serious opposition for this Satori XL lineup.

Satori XL is also already sanctioned as the British national 4-way team for the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017 in Montreal later this year. The World Challenge 2016 was the official qualification event that Satori XL won with Julia Swallow, Pete Allum, Ian Hodgkinson and John McIver in the lineup.

John McIver said that the XL 3-way (Steve Hamilton, John McIver, Pete Allum) will have Katie Woods for the indoor lineup. Katie Woods is now the only original Satori member. She was in the Satori lineup between 2007 and 2010, where she spent two years of training and competition with John McIver. Katie Woods and Pete Allum are the only FAI medalists in the current Satori roster. Pete Allum won bronze for Italy in 2006, Katie Woods for Canada in 2014. Now they will try again to win the first 4-way Open Class medals for the British delegation in Canada...
