Did You Know...

... that the July 15 weekend featured three combined leaderboards for two rounds?

Seattle Swift in Round 1
posted Jul 25th, 2017 - Last weekend did not bring any new scores to the leaderboards, and the scores of the July 15 weekend are still the latest ones.

It was a special leaderboard though, as it happens to turn out once in a while. The NSL competition draw for the AAA Class is always randomly created and then trickles down into the other three outdoor categories. This procedure creates an interesting situation whenever a sequence is identical for two different categories. In such a case, teams have the opportunity to compare their scores directly with others in a higher or lower category.

A 5-point AAA Class sequence without a slot switcher could also be drawn for a AA Class competition, and this was the case in Round 1 on the July 15 weekend.

Block 9 (Cat + Accordeon) is even a part of the A Class dive pool, as well. However, the A Class sequences are complete with a third scoring formation, even though the A Class draw may also create a 4-point sequence, as it was the case in Round 2 and Round 5. The sequence of Round 1 brought only the AAA and AA teams together.

The sequence of Round 1 was also the one that scrambled up the leaderboard more than the other combinations on the same weekend.

Seattle Swift, on top of the AAA Class leaderboard, still maintained the top position on the combined AAA/AA leaderboard.

However, two AA Class teams (Southern Mix, Vantage) tied the 18-pointer highscore for the round.

The AA Class teams showed even more strength, with Pajama Pumas and BOOBs next behind the top score with their 16-pointers. In fact, the whole combined AAA/AA leaderboard for Round 1 was a colorful mix between teams in both categories.

The same sequence for AA and A teams (P,Q,6) came in Round 5. British A Class team Jurassic Pork managed to leave two AA Class teams behind. Southern Mix and Fourtified are not on the combined leaderboard, as they did not get to Round 5 due to the weather situation at Skydive Tennessee.

The sequence of Round 1 (F,A,C) eventually brought the A and Rookie Class teams together, as well, with a sequence of three random formations. The British A Class teams used the scoring opportunity well and took the two top positions.

A Class teams are more familiar with fast sequences of only random formations, as they appear frequently in their competition draws.

The A Class dive pool includes only eight blocks for the first step into the technical 4-way world. The combination with 16 random formations makes it more likely to get a sequence of three random formations regularly.

However, Round 1 was the only faster sequence that A and Rookie Class teams shared on the July 15 weekend.

The coming weekend will bring teams from Germany and the Northern Plains Skydiving League together on the same leaderboard before the Sun Path Products NSL News will travel to the skydiving center in Saarlouis, host of the FAI World Cup 2017, for the live coverage of the event.
