Did You Know...

... that Northern California had a busy indoor month of August?

Interfering on 12+ leaderboard: Florida's Indoor Cloud League team
posted Sep 8th, 2017 - The 12+ leaderboard of the Indoor Cloud League does not offer as much drama in the rankings as the competition on the 14+ leaderboard.

iFLY Sacramento has been extending the lead consistently, and the scores of the August competition added more distance to the total for the 2017 season.

Florida's team has been interfering in the 2-team battle in Northern California between iFLY Sacramento and iFLY SF Bay ever since they added the 12+ sequences to the monthly Indoor Cloud League agenda at iFLY Tampa. However, the Florida teams and competitors started posting scores and videos on both leaderboards too late for a chance to catch up with the two west coast teams.

Each of the four different teams on the August leaderboard, including Harpia from Brazil, left a mark with a highscore in any of the six ICL categories. iFLY Sacramento's RR Class lineup (Keith Clayton, Brenda Jacobs, Lori Connor, Matt Stephens) claimed the highest score of both leaderboards, where the three Rookie Class sequences (RRR - RR - R) are always identical.

The Northern California Skydiving League organized three events last month at iFLY SF Bay, with two World Tunnel League meets and one NCSL Tunnel Kicker, and NCSL Director Lori Connor provided a summary:

iFLY SF Bay's ICL team on August 2nd
"The events are always fun because you get to be in the tunnel, get better at flying, socialize and see good friends, but there's also the competition side of each evening.

The NCSL Tunnel Kicker was the first event held on August 2nd where the SF Bay team added 70 points onto the NSL's Indoor Cloud League leaderboard.

Unfortunately, the SF Bay team was missing submissions in both the RRR and A categories, due to three of the teams having some of their scores disqualified due to lineup limitations restricting the number of player coaches allowed to fly on teams, as well as complete and identical lineups only being able to post two scores for any two neighboring categories.

Luckily the SF Bay team was able to pick up additional 31 points for its A and RRR submissions because of two teams participating at the WTL meets held on the 9th and 16th.

The WTL draw published on the 1st of each month syncs the WTL and ICL draws for each of the classes, so the first rounds flown at the WTL meets are the same as those flown at the Tunnel Kickers."

There was an internal AAA Class competition at SF Bay on the August ICL leaderboard, with four teams flying the N-6-H-3 slot switcher sequence for the front piece, and the coaches team (Leander van Schriek, Julius Frank, Deanna Frank and Volker Haag) won with the the 18-pointer:

AAA highscore: iFLY SF Bay coaches
"Meta4's regular lineup (Julius Frank, Deanna Frank, Ethan DeLano and Jessica Lee) added the highscore in AA for the ICL leaderboard with 17 points, with two of the members of 4Tune, Sylvain Florand and Vignesh Elamvazhuthi, flying with Leander van Schriek and Deanna Frank, scoring a 15-pointer in AA for the 2nd place.

"The other highscore for the SF Bay team on the August ICL leaderboard was the RRR 19-pointer by Team Fourmation at the August 16th WTL meet. The 101 total points added by the iFLY SF Bay team placed it in 3rd place on the August Indoor Cloud League leaderboard behind iFLY Tampa with 102 and iFLY Sacramento with 112 points."

Lori Connoer also provided more details of the World Tunnel League meet in August:

"The two World Tunnel League meets had a total of six teams spread out between all of the four categories - two rookie teams and one of each A, AA and AAA. Meta4 and 4Tune competed internally in the AA class with Meta4 ranking highest with a 16.6 point average and 4Tune with a 13.3 point average."

"Rookie team 2-on-2, who flew at the August 9th WTL meet, was the only SF Bay rookie team completing the 6-round meet. Unfortunately, Team Fourmation performed the incorrect draw posted for the August 5th NCSL outdoor meet instead of the August 1st WTL draw.

iFLY SF Bay's ICL team on August 16th
"Not all was lost for the team though, since its 19-pointer 1st round was also the highscore for the SF Bay team in the RRR Class on the ICL August leaderboard!

"Meta4 with its 16.6 point average ranked first among the August WTL AA teams, higher than the four teams who competed at the iFLY Tampa Bay August WTL meet. SF Bay's AA team 4Tune also ranked second in AA with its 13.3-point average. The AAA Gangnam team who flew at the August 16th WTL meet ranked 3rd on the overall WTL AAA leaderboard with its 16.5-point average.

"It was a reunion of sorts with The Gangnam team flying together for the WTL meet. Christina Deglau, Mike Deglau, Jim Hopf and Volker Haag competed together on Motiv8 who won Gold in Advanced 8-way in 2015 along with other NCSL coaches Julius Frank, Deanna Frank, Keith Fennech and Matt Stephens.

"Thanks teams for braving the extreme heat in August to come out to the tunnel, fly hard, learn lots and have fun while working with our fantastic NCSL coaches to put all of these great scores on the dual leaderboards for our host/sponsor iFLY SF Bay."
