Did You Know...

... that the October leaderboard of the World Tunnel League features teams from Florida and Northern California?

12+ chamber at iFLY SF Bay
posted Oct 23rd, 2017 - Other indoor events continued to take place while the best 4-way national teams in the world were getting ready for and then competed at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017.

Florida and Northern California held their respective World Tunnel League October meets earlier this month, and the Florida scores of the iFLY Tampa event were posted on 16 October 2017. Northern California followed up a few days later at iFLY SF Bay with the same competition draw and new scores.

The ten monthly sequences are a mixture of the 12+ and the 14+ dive pool, which allows all teams and competitors at wind tunnels with different flying chambers to compare their scores with each other, at least for the first six rounds, which include only the blocks for the 12+ events. The remaining four rounds bring all other blocks into the game plan for a 10-round competition.

The 12+ tunnels can naturally use only the first six rounds, which was the case in October, when iFLY SF Bay and iFLY Tampa hosted the events in Northern California and Florida. However, the teams at both events used the opportunity of the next World Tunnel League event, and the teams in Florida added the additional four rounds in Tampa. The leaderboard is showing the results after Round 6.

AAA Class winner after Round 6: Blue Steel
The Northern California Skydiving League held the October meet of the World Tunnel League on the 11th, at iFLY SF Bay with four teams. Even though Lori Connor's SF Bay Mix team was the lone AAA Class team at the SF Bay meet, it had competition on the WTL leaderboard from the Florida Skydiving League.

SF Bay Mix finished with a 16.3 average for the 6-round meet, which tied Florida's Blue Steel average after all ten rounds.

However, the scores after the six rounds that both teams completed had Blue Steel nine points ahead in 1st place.

The October meet was the first time that SF Bay Mix competed as a team. Volker Haag and Lori Connor were prior team mates on the DeLoreans who have competed at indoor and outdoor meets both.

Christina Deglau, Mike Deglau and Volker Haag were also 8-way team mates when Motiv8 won USPA Advanced Class gold medals in 2015. They competed in the 4-way Intermediate Class competition of 2015 with Speed XF at the same time.

The two SF Bay AA Class teams 4Tune and 2Pairs had their own internal competition and four Florida teams on the shared leaderboard. 2Pairs competed for the first time together and held off one of the SCZ FutheranZe XP lineups in Tampa.

Lori Connor, Will Harris and Volker Haag with the DeLoreans
Team members Ethan DeLano and Jessica Lee had just attended the USPA Nationals 2017 where they won silver medals with the California Raptors.

2Pairs member Will Harris had won his own USPA silver medal in the Intermediate Class before, with Centerpoint in 2014. He has also competed with Volker Haag and Lori Connor for the DeLoreans at indoor and outdoor events.

The only SF Bay Rookie Class team R1 had neither competition in Northern California nor in Florida and is alone on the October leaderboard with the 15.4 average. League and meet organizers still have until the end of the month to hold World Tunnel League meets.
