Did You Know...

... that VR-UNiQ barely fended off the 4-way junior Recruitz challenge at the Revenge?

Rookie Class awards at the Revenge 2017
posted Nov 15th, 2017 - There was only one other re-match at the Revenge, next to the one in the AAA Class between ACM and NFTO. It was of a very different kind and took place in the Rookie Class with a different outcome.

The challenger was a 4-way junior team, one of the two Recruitz lineups, who took on the Rookie Class visitors from Ireland, VR-UNiQ, who had also competed at the World Challenge 2017.

The Irish team had a slightly different lineup, as Stephen Kenny replaced Lorraine Wilton at the team's second competition this year in Bedford. The lineup at the Revenge was well prepared for ten new Rookie Class sequences and improved the 10.9 average at the World Challenge to 17.0 at the Revenge.

The 10.9 average in April was already enough to leave the three British Rookie Class teams behind. All other teams in this category at the World Challenge were visitors from other countries, as well, which were unlikely to come back to Bedford again in October. Last year's Revenge had been exclusively a British affair with a 15.6 winning average in the Rookie Class (Poor 4cast), and VR-UNiQ could be confident to compete as a top contender this time.

Recruitz at the World Challenge 2017
Poor 4cast was back at the Revenge but had moved up into the A Class for the 2017 season.

Matt Brown, Chris Holland, Peter Leech and Manny Williamson won the A Class Revenge after the 4th place at the World Challenge, and VR-UNiQ did not have to deal with the defending Rookie Class champion of 2016.

However, there was other, and probably unexpected, competition in the Rookie Class for the Irish visitors, even though they had met the new challengers at the World Challenge in April.

World Challenge host Paul Mayer had launched his own 4-way junior project in 2016, with two young Recruitz lineups.

Both teams competed for the first time at the World Challenge 2017 where they ended up on the bottom of the Rookie Class leaderboard with 8.9 and 5.9 averages

The Recruitz 1 lineup looked completely different half a year later and lifted their performance and scoring level even more than VR-UNiQ had done in the same period.

Hard work at the Revenge 2017: VR-UNiQ
The Rookie Class competition turned out to become an exciting battle between the 4-way seniors from Ireland and the 4-way juniors of Recruitz 1 on their home turf.

Both teams posted highscores in the first eight rounds and were eventually tied before the last two rounds. VR-UNiQ had the stronger finish and won the Rookie Class gold medals by a total of five points in Round 9 and Round 10. It took all of the 17.0 average for the much improved Irish team to hold off the British 4-way juniors who would have won last year's Revenge with their 16.5 average.

The second Recruitz lineup improved their meet average significantly, as well (5.0 - 6.9) and posted the team's first 2-digit score in Round 8 with a 12-pointer. The 6.9 average was also enough to stay away from the very bottom of the leaderboard this time.

Great Britain did not have a 4-way Junior team at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017, where AA Class dive pool and rules are required. It might be only a matter of time when Recruitz will eventually join the FAI leaderboard with British scores...
