Did You Know...

... that Parachute Montreal Fuzion has new team plans until 2020?

4th place at the FAI World Meet 2014 in Prostejov
posted Jan 24th, 2018 - The NSL News mentioned briefly on 21 October 2017 that Canada's national team in 4-way Women, Parachute Montreal Fuzion, had a personnel change last year.

The FAI Indoor World Meet 2017 was in full swing on Fuzion's home turf SkyVenture Montreal at that time, and the home team was barely in medal contention for the 3rd place after Round 6. Fuzion eventually ended up in 5th place.

What had happened after the bronze medals for Canada at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017 in Saarlouis, which could have been silver without the weather troubles?

Valerie Bisson had joined Parachute Montreal Fuzion at the beginning of the 2014 season as a teenager and finished in 4th place half a year later at the FAI World Meet 2014 in Prostejov. Fuzion was on the same path to FAI medals that Evolution won in 4-way Open at the same event.

The 2015 season ended perfectly with the bronze medals at the World Air Games 2015 and a 17.1 average that was significantly higher than a year ago (14.7) in Prostejov.

Bronze medals at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017
Fuzion then traveled to Bedford at the beginning of the next world meet season in 2016, outscored NFTO on their British home turf at the World Challenge and finished only two points behind indoor team Volition.

It was looking good for Canada in 4-way Women five months before the outdoor world meet in Ottawa.

However, it did not turn out successfully for Fuzion at the FAI Mondial 2016 where NFTO performed strongly, while Fuzion could only copy their own 17.1 average of December 2015. Canada ended up in the same 4th place as in 2014.

Fuzion still made new plans for the 2017 season and posted the third 17.1 average within a year and a half at the Canadian Nationals 2017.

The Canadian team was finally on the way to leave the old team record average behind at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017 in Saarlouis. They were tied in 2nd place with Russia's Bubble Trouble and an 18.2 average after Round 5, when bad weather stopped the meet. However, Fuzion had won the FAI bronze medals for Canada.

Canadian AA Class champion of 2017: Storm with Stephanie Longchamps
In the meantime, Valerie Bisson had already announced that she would not be able to continue at the end of the 2017 season.

The commitment to team training and competition was too much to keep up well enough with her college duties, while Fuzion wanted to continue.

The team began to look for a new member and found Stephanie Longchamps who was ready to take the slot. She was on the Storm lineup who won the AA Class championship title at the Canadian Nationals in June last year.

Fuzion decided quickly to begin training with Stephanie Longchamps right away and compete with the new lineup at the upcoming FAI Indoor World Meet at SkyVenture Montreal.

There was not much time to bring the new member up from AA Class competition to Fuzion AAA Class speed, and the recent slot scramble did not make it any easier.

Fuzion lineup at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017
Stephanie Longchamps replaced Valerie Bisson in the tail slot. However, coach Niklas Hemlin had also suggested a slot switch in the front piece at the same time. Renee Point left her signature slot to become the new outside center, and Janylene Breton took her point slot.

The first competition with the new lineup came less than two months after the bronze medal trip to Europe with Valerie Bisson, and Fuzion still finished only eight points behind the bronze medal position.

Parachute Montreal Fuzion is now in the first year with the new lineup and will compete for Canada at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia. However, the best news from Canada was the commitment of the new lineup until 2020. The trip to Australia is only one step on the way to the final goal in three years.

2018 is a building year, and coach Niklas Hemlin wants to focus on improving individual skills and fine-tuning the block techniques. Fuzion is planning to spend an average of 30 minutes each week in the home tunnel, with and without the coach. It's the 5th year for Janylene Breton and Marie-Eve Dallaire with Fuzion, and they will reach out for FAI world meet medals in their 7th year together...
