Did You Know...

... that Aerodyne Weembi Girls is setting new standards in 4-way Women?

French 4-way Women gold medals in Menzelinsk 2010
posted Mar 23rd, 2018 - The NSL News mentioned briefly on 19 March 2018 that Aerodyne Weembi Girls member Sophia Pecout "was very pleased with her team's performance, as the 23.5 average is a new team record average". The mention came with the promise to follow up with NSL Live Talk at the French Indoor Nationals 2018.

The French national team in 4-way Women found some time for a conversation on Thursday between training sessions for the competition at Weembi Lille. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Falcons coach Gary Smith agreed to be the anchor for the new NSL Live Talk.

The same story in the aftermath of the Shamrock Showdown 2018 also mentioned that the 23.5 average in DeLand was "the highest outdoor average ever posted by a female 4-way team, after the 23.6 of Aerokart Deep Blue in 2010, which was boosted by a Super Sequence".

The NSL News took a closer look at the numbers and letters of 2010 and 2017, and the competition draw in Menzelinsk, Russia, surely was the faster one, significantly faster. It included one Super Sequence of only random formations in Round 3 and a second very fast Round 9, where Aerokart Deep Blue added a 32-pointer to the 47 points and the total.

French 4-way Women gold medals in Prostejov 2014
The two French 4-way Women teams are the only ones in this event who ever posted 23+ averages in a 10-round meet, and the Aerodyne Weembi Girls don't seem to be done with this level.

In fact, they performed on a 24+ pace level and lost a total of six points in the judging room, several of them due to video angles after the exit. It may not take too long until the French team will show the 24+ average on the leaderboard after ten rounds, possibly at the world meet in Australia.

Deep Blue was in a similar situation in their time as Aerodyne Weembi Girls is at this point. There was no serious competition in 4-way Women for France in 2010. This changed when the Golden Knights started their 4-way Women project in 2011. France still dominated the event with two more gold medals in 2012 and 2014 until the U.S. Army team, with JaNette Lefkowitz in the lineup, won in 2016 with a 22.4 average.

Deep Blue discontinued after the gold medals in 2010. Only Amélie Tirman came back with a new lineup (Laurence Herve, Perrine Sanchez, Stéphanie Texier) and defended the French gold medals successfully in Dubai 2012. Sophie Deremaux-Boulogne had a short comeback when Laurence Herve-Fugen had to miss the world meet due to an injury.

23.5 average at the Shamrock Showdown
Laurence Herve-Fugen then won her gold medal with the next French 4-way Women lineup in 2014 (Christine Malnis, Sophia Pecout, Perrine Sanchez) before she was selected for the French 4-way Open Class team, Aerodyne Realfly.

Christine Malnis and Sophia Pecout started the new team cycle with Clementine Le Bohec and Anais Maillet. Pamela Lissajoux replaced Anais Maillet in 2016, and the new lineup was not ready to defend the gold medals successfully against the Golden Knights.

However, the next set of French gold medals in 4-way Women is due this year, and the Aerodyne Weembi Girls are not even looking at their own leaderboard. They want to be in the top spots of the Open Class leaderboard, at least theoretically. The French Indoor Nationals does not have a separate leaderboard in 4-way Women, and the Weembi Girls will most likely battle with the French Open Class team for the top spot.

They will also have their eyes on a different mark at Weembi Lille. The highest indoor average by a 4-way Women team is the 30.3 average that the same lineup posted last year at the World Challenge. The competition draw in 4-way is scheduled for this evening...
