Did You Know...

... that Weembi Girls won two French Formation Skydiving titles this year?

8-way awards for the Open Class competition without the Weembi Elder 8
posted Mar 26th, 2018 - It is not the first time that a Formation Skydiving competitor wins in 4-way and in 8-way at the same event. It has happened only once at a world championship though, when French national coach Mathieu Bernier won gold medals in both events in Menzelinsk 2010, while it is not so unusual at national championships.

In fact, it did not really happen officially this time, as Weembi's 8-way home team, Elder 8, appeared on the French leaderboard only as a guest team for unknown reasons. The 8-way world champions of the older days, who have collected three sets of gold medals for France between 2006 and 2010, were not even called to the stage during the award ceremony when the gust teams of the Open Class competition had their turn.

Weembi Girls, Qatar Falcons and Veloce QRF had their place on the podium, while the actual winner, Weembi Elder 8, was only listed on the bottom of the 8-way leaderboard. The 8-way Open Class competition was not open for the French 8-way world champions.

This situation included the only competitor last weekend who posted the highest scores in 4-way and 8-way. Clementine LeBohec won in 8-way with the Weembi Elder 8 lineup, where she filled the open slot in the last minute, and she won the official French 4-way indoor title with a new historic indoor record average (31.0) for a 4-way Women team, the Aerodyne Weembi Girls.

Weembi Elder 8 with Clementine LeBohec in competition action
Four competitors accomplished the same last year at the same event. NMP PCH HayaBusa won the 4-way competition as a guest team at Weembi, and their 8-way lineup, Fly-In Machine 44, finished in 1st place of the 8-way competition as a guest team, as well.

This time, it was only Clementine LeBohec in both winning teams. However, her 4-way Women team mates Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis both defended their French indoor 8-way title successfully with the Weembi Girls and got the French double-gold 2018 titles. The Weembi High Rollers had taken the French 4-way title at Weembi Lille last year and competed for France in Montreal.

The Weembi High Rollers won the French title with a 30.0 average in 2017, guest team HayaBusa won the 4-way AAA Class competition with a 31.3 average. The Weembi Girls lifted their 24.2 average of 2017 to 26.8 last weekend, which was still not enough to outscore the former French 8-way world champions - and Clementine LeBohec.

Last year's double winner Dennis Praet was still the reigning champion when he visited on Saturday. A day later, Clementine LeBohec had copied what he had done a year ago...
