Did You Know...

... that Jetmax and HF Flying Circus have been fighting their own battles since 2015?

Jetmax at the World Challenge 2015
posted Apr 22nd, 2018 - Another team duel took place on the same "German World Challenge weekend" when Airbus FSZ Saar and AtomiX-YUU fought it out at the German Outdoor Nationals 2017.

This duel was an international one between HF Flying Circus from the Czech Republic and Jetmax from Belgium. Flying Circus members mentioned this friendly rivalry during the NSL Live Talk on World Challenge TV after Jetmax members had brought it up on the same World Challenge TV stage earlier.

The competition between the two teams from the Czech Republic and Belgium began two years later, compared to the history of Airbus and AtomiX, and on a much lower level, as well.

In fact, both teams were still competing in the Rookie Class when they met each other for the first time at the World Challenge 2015. HF Flying Circus won the gold medals at the team's first competition in Bedford, and Jetmax placed right behind them. Both teams also had different lineups in 2015. HF Flying Circus had their personnel change for the current lineup at the end of the 2015 season, while Jetmax has been training and competing with the 2018 lineup since the beginning of the 2017 season.

HF Flying Circus at the World Challenge 2015
HF Flying Circus and Jetmax both spent only a short time in the A Class and used the complete 2016 season to practice the 16 blocks of the AA Class. They also met two times at meets in this category, first outdoors at the ESL Championship and then indoors at the ISR Grand Prix. HF Flying Circus won both meets, and Jetmax finished right behind in 2nd place in Roosendaal.

They both moved up into the AAA Class and met again at the World Challenge 2017. Jetmax attended only the Wind Games before the first AAA Class showdown with the Czech team in Bedford, while Flying Circus used five meets of the World Tunnel League winter season at the Hurricane Factory to get familiar with the complete dive pool.

It was not a big surprise that the additional AAA Class experience helped Flying Circus to keep the upper hand in the next duel with Jetmax at the World Challenge 2017.

However, the Belgians kept working on their new AAA Class skills in their own ways and with coach Maya Van Campenhout, ISR FireFlash member, and they moved closer at the two other 2017 events.

Scoring relationship and history between HF Flying Circus and Jetmax since 2013
Jetmax at the ESL Championship 2017
HF Flying Circus still won the next outdoor competition at the ESL Championship 2017, even though the distance was much closer compared to the same event a year earlier.

It was the same situation at the next indoor competition, the ISR Grand Prix 2017 in November, where Jetmax moved closer, as well.

Half a year later, this duel eventually became one of the closest battles of the World Challenge 2018. The distance between Flying Circus and Jetmax was down to two points (222 - 220) and both teams pushed each other to new team record averages.

They did not make the last cut in Bedford and will try again to make the Top 10 next year. However, they will face again at other meets this year, and Jetmax will surely try to outscore Flying Circus at a competition for the first time. The next opportunity is probably the ESL Championship 2018 in Saarlouis...
