Did You Know...

... that the opening ceremony at Gold Coast's Surfer's Paradise was a happy event despite the rain?

Original Rotor Out lineup with Jens Goennemann and Gary Nemirovski
posted Oct 6th, 2018 - The FAI World Meet 2018 has officially begun.

The previous NSL-TV video clips were recorded on the last training day before the opening ceremony, featuring the event site and Tent City. There were a few stops on the way through the sports stadium where the nations' delegations have their headquarters during the competition.

Shannon Pilcher has his place once again at the Australian tent where he helps Rotor Out to post the team's best scores on their home turf. Original Rotor Out member Gary Nemirovski is still training and competing with the Australian national 4-way team, and he is also in this year's 8-way lineup.

There was another original Rotor Out member at the competition site on Saturday. He was found at a different place though, the German headquarters at Tent City. Jens Goennemann was an EADS/Airbus member before he moved to Australia and then formed the first Rotor Out lineup in 2009. He found his former 4-way and 8-way team mate Thomas Spielvogel at the German headquarters, who cannot compete at the world meet due to an injury right before the trip to Australia. Both are now only observers at Gold Coast.

The official opening ceremony was scheduled for Saturday afternoon and fell victim to the same unfortunate weather situation that did not allow the teams much training on the same day. However, the rain did not keep the delegations and spectators from celebrating and visiting the Surfer's Paradise area downtown Gold Coast and right on the beach.

In fact, even the demo jumps with flags and banners took place when the rain eventually stopped and the clouds were not in the way.

The host had picked the best place in town for the opening ceremony, as the latest video clip is showing. Soft sand on the wide beach made it easy for the demo jumpers to land the parachutes right next to the delegations and in front of the downtown buildings and the spectators who were not bothered too much by the weather conditions.

The parade of the delegations on the road along the beach was once again a happy event despite the earlier rain, and the participants will be facing much better weather conditions during the competition.

The competition draw was next on the agenda after the buses shuttled teams, competitors and officials back to the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre.
