Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed need ten emergency performances in April?

posted Feb 26th, 2019 - The aftermath of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2019 begins with the competition videos of Arizona Airspeed and SDC Rhythm XP.

The scores on the leaderboard featured the thriller of the first seven rounds on Saturday just by the numbers, which was already exciting enough. However, watching the competition videos and knowing the scoring numbers at the same time is lifting the experience of the audience to a significantly higher level.

Even the combination of the scores and the videos cannot substitute for the live experience of watching how the battling teams prepare for their breath-taking performances, how they deal with the pressure, and how they control their emotions and behavior after a competition round. Indoor competition brings this special live experience much more up close and personal to audience and fellow competitors than outdoor events.

The NSL Reality TV clips are an effort to bring the live meet atmosphere to the online audience as good as possible, while the actual competition videos feature the athletic performance in the flying chamber. Two NSL Reality TV clips were posted on Saturday and Sunday, and it is time now to follow up with the action in the flying chamber.Saturday's and Sunday's NSL Reality TV clips at Paraclete XP

New record average: SDC Rhythm XP

The leaderboard after the first seven rounds on Saturday presented an unexpected picture, at least for Arizona Airspeed. SDC Rhythm XP had not only tied or even won a round here and there, as it has happened in the past.

It was a 1-point difference after seven rounds, which was a completely different situation compared to the previous and recent U.S. duel at the Wind Games.

The U.S. indoor and outdoor champions also did not really have any terrible rounds and neither a bad meet average. Arizona Airspeed has been lingering around the 31+ scoring level for a while, which is still on the world's top level. In fact, only NMP PCH HayaBusa and Weembi High Rollers have ever posted higher indoor meet averages.

The Arizona Airspeed trouble is more related to the fact that SDC Rhythm XP shows progression while Airspeed seems to be stuck in the 31+ 4-way mud. The same Airspeed lineup had posted once a 32+ average at the World Challenge 2018, which is still the Airspeed indoor record number.

The 32.4 average is also the highest U.S. indoor average in history, while it is not even close any longer to the Belgian and French top levels, and SDC Rhythm XP keeps cutting into the difference.

Emergency performance in Round 8: Arizona Airspeed
image by: Elliot Byrd for Paraclete XP
Round 8 then changed the picture quickly, at least for last weekend's competition. Arizona Airspeed launched the second meet day on the highest possible alert and energy level, and it paid out extremely well. SDC Rhythm XP could not keep up with Airspeed's emergency performance and fell hopelessly behind at the Paraclete meet.

However, Doug Barron said during the NSL Live Talk that his team is happy with the new 30.6 record average. Of course, Rhythm would have liked to maintain the eye-to-eye level that they had throughout the first seven rounds, and there was some disappointment after Round 8.

It did not last long though, as the competition between the two teams in the last two rounds was back to the same level where it was before Round 8. Airspeed added only one more point to the lead, and Rhythm finished with a new team record average.

Arizona Airspeed is the old and new U.S. indoor 4-way champion and will compete for the U.S. delegation at the FAI Indoor World Meet in April. They have seven weeks left to find a way how to deliver ten emergency performances like in Round 8, before meeting NMP PCH HayaBusa and Weembi High Rollers in Lille, France...
