Did You Know...

... that Joey Jones is expecting an internal British battle at the World Challenge 2019?

Joey and Lena Jones at their previous home at Twinwoods Adventure
posted Mar 13th, 2019 - The World Challenge 2019 is once again including the UK Indoor Nationals, and the NSL News was interested in an update of the 4-way situation in Great Britain.

Joey Jones, 4-way world champion of 2004 with U.S. team DeLand Majik and professional coach, has been providing the NSL News regularly with interesting information from the areas where he is directly involved as a coach and competitor, and he has been discussing topics in many NSL Live Talk sessions in the past.

Once again, he made himself available for a new NSL Live Talk this week and at the end of his current indoor training camp with the Swedish national team in 4-way Women, Team X, in Stockholm.

Joey Jones used to live at Twinwood Adventures in Bedford with his Swedish wife Lena, and they have recently moved to Luton, between Bedford and London. He is now traveling even more than before and spends much of his time at the Weembi wind tunnel in Lille, as well. The busy indoor season in Europe, with many wind tunnels for winter training and competition, does not allow much of a break any longer, neither for teams nor for coaches.

NFTO at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018
His Swedish Team X will be aiming once again at the bronze medal position in 4-way Women at the FAI Indoor World Meet next month, and Joey Jones is expecting a close race for the 3rd place. Team X won FAI bronze medals at the outdoor world meet in Australia last year, and indoor bronze medals a few weeks later in Bahrain.

Joey Jones is expecting a battle for 1st and 2nd place between Nephtys Weembi (France) and NFTO (Great Britain). He said that he does not really know where to expect the U.S. team for the meet, XPG4, who finished with a strong 23.7 performance at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship.

He met the British 4-way indoor champions of ACM Weembi several times in Lille and is expecting a close battle between ACM and NFTO at the World Challenge.

Both teams were separated by only one single point at the FAI Indoor World Cup in October 2018, where NFTO won the gold medals in 4-way Women. NFTO confirmed the 25+ average with Julia Swallow in the lineup at the Wind Games 2019, where ACM did not compete.

ACM Weembi at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018
The FAI event in Bahrain was actually the last competition for ACM Weembi. It will be helpful for the British national indoor team to fight the first battle with NFTO at the World Challenge before competing for the British delegation at the indoor world meet a few weeks later.

There could be more competition for ACM in the 4-way Open category. Chimera is not far from the same scoring level, as they were showing in the last five rounds at the Wind Games. They had missed the first half of the meet, and the NSL News will follow up with more information of the mishap in Spain. However, the World Challenge could feature a 3-team battle between NFTO, ACM and Chimera for the 4-way top spot in Great Britain, and Satori XL could make it a 4-pack.

Joey Jones is training and competing as a player-coach with Eros, who left behind the 20-average benchmark at the indoor world cup in Bahrain. The British top teams are probably out of reach for his team.

He commented a few other topics in the NSL Live Talk, including the British female 4-way power and the situation of the best 4-way juniors in the world, who are still competing over only eight rounds with the AA Class dive pool at FAI events, while they have moved up into the AAA Class world at other 4-way meets.
