Did You Know...

... that Seattle Swift take a 1-year break?

iFLY Seattle's Indoor Cloud League team in April
posted May 5th, 2019 - Scores and videos of the Indoor Cloud League April competition have been posted, while the leaderboards are still not complete yet. As usual, the Florida Skydiving League participants have their numbers posted on the 12+ (iFLY Orlando) and the 14+ (iFLY Tampa) leaderboards, even though organizer Amer Kassas may still add the video for iFLY Tampa's AAA Class sequence.

The latest update came from iFLY Seattle, where Seattle Swift member Djordje Mandaric organizes the events. He continued with the iFLY Seattle team of the Northwest Skydiving League when Deb Correia stepped back at the end of last year. Deb and Dave Correia both still join the ICL events and help the ICL participants with their experiences. Deb Correia was in the lineup that posted the scores for the AA/A sequences. Dave Correia was guiding the R Class lineup, together with Bill Selig.

The update from iFLY Seattle came together with other news. It happened regularly in the past that ICL or Northwest Skydiving League news were somehow related to a team that was founded and formed in this region of the United States, Seattle Swift. The 4-way team had also posted scores for AAA and AA sequences for the iFLY Seattle team frequently.

However, this time, there were no Seattle Swift numbers on the 14+ leaderboard. Only team member and ICL organizer Djordje Mandaric was in the AAA Class lineup that added the 11-pointer to the iFLY Seattle account for April.

Djordje Mandaric with iFLY Seattle's AAA Class lineup
Djordje Mandaric explained that Seattle Swift decided to retire the team project, or at least take a break for a year:

"While all Swift members have a desire to continue, one of the team members was unable to financially commit to another season of training and as such has decided to step away from the team for this year. The team subsequently decided not to look for a replacement, but to rather take a year off and hope we'll come back together in 2020."

Seattle Swift started in the AA Class of the Northwest Skydiving League in 2016. They attended three regional NWSL meets and then won the AA Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2016. The team was not eligible for USPA medals though.

Dmitry Rudchenko's green card application was proceeding too slowly, and Seattle Swift's 2016 lineup could not win officially.

Advanced Class silver: Seattle Swift at the USPA Nationals 2018
Seattle Swift moved up into the AAA Class anyway and continued with a similarly consistent progression at the meets of the Northwest Skydiving League in 2017 as in the AA Class of 2016. Result was a 5th place in the Advanced Class at the USPA Nationals 2017.

The same lineup was back for the 2018 season and attended once again three NWSL meets before competing at the USPA Nationals. The same progression as in the previous years at the regional meets (12.9 - 13.0 - 14.0) indicated that Seattle Swift would be in contention for medals this time.

Swift could not keep up with the winner, Savage XP, with two members in the lineup who are now training and competing with the U.S. national 8-way team Paraclete XP8 (Jeana Billings, Kirk Verner). However, Swift had a fierce battle with Elsinore Elevate, who had 4-way world champion Josh Hall in the lineup, for USPA's Advanced Class silver medals.

Swift won by a single point and would have been the top contender for USPA gold this year. The team's 1-year break opens up the Advanced Class top competition at the USPA Nationals 2019.
