Did You Know...

... that Paraclete XP won back two Indoor Cloud League points in April?

U.S. delegation at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
posted May 6th, 2019 - Paraclete XP's teams at the FAI Indoor World Meet, XP8 in 8-way and XPG4 in 4-way Women, contributed heavily to the medal collection of the U.S. delegation in Lille, France. XP8 won the 8-way Challenge, and XPG4 added a set of FAI bronze medals.

XPG4 increased their 23.7 average at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship to 26.2 at Weembi Lille and would have needed just some more tunnel time to reach Nephtys Weembi and NFTO on the winning level. XP8's 31.6 average is the third-highest number in history. Only the Golden Knights ever scored higher, in 2015 (32.4) and in 2017 (31.8) at indoor events.

The XPG4 members have often participated at Paraclete XP's Indoor Cloud League events as player coaches. In fact, Morgan Womble organizes Paraclete's ICL team, together with Jessica Haugaard. XP8 members Kirk Verner, John D'Annunzio, Brian Krause, and alternate Matt Davidson have also made themselves available for ICL events frequently.

However, XPG4 and XP8 were busy with preparations for the indoor world meet in April, and they could not participate in ICL events last month. In fact, Michelle Karamon and Jena Billings both even competed in 8-way and 4-way Women at Weembi Lille. They finished as the most successful Formation Skydiving competitors at the indoor world meet, with gold and bronze medals. Only Pamela Lissajoux from France was more successful with a gold medal in 4-way Women and silver in 8-way.

The Paraclete XP competitors actually met their ICL opponents of the Hurricane Factory at Weembi Lille, even though they did not compete directly against each other in any of the Formation Skydiving competition events. HF Flying Circus posted their scores on the 4-way Open leaderboard, and the HF Cubs won the 4-way Junior competition.

Both Czech teams had still posted Indoor Cloud League scores (AAA - AA) for April before they traveled to France. They won both ICL categories last month, however, Paraclete XP eventually ended up with the higher April total (110 - 108) after scoring better in three of the other four ICL categories (A - RRR - RR) and matching the Czech score for the R Class sequence.

Golden Knights new team captain Drew Starr stepped in once again and guided assistant coaches and participants through the six April sequences of the Indoor Cloud League. Organizer Jessica Haugaard said that she and Morgan Womble are very grateful for the support they have been receiving from the U.S. Army team members:

"The amount of support which we've received from the Golden Knights over the past couple years has been incredible. Drew Starr has coached for us consistently since the start back in 2017. We've also received regular support from Jen Davidson, and we have seen support from Angela Navarro, Jon Clevenger, Keith Pierce, and Nik Grimm. Not to forget former Golden Knights Brian Krause, Matt Davidson, and Matt Acord, as well."

Highest 8-way average in history: Golden Knights at the Clash of Champions in 2015
Drew Starr still owns the two highest 8-way averages in history and was watching the Paraclete XP8 challenge only from the distance. At the same time, he is trying to bring the new Golden Knights lineup to the level where the U.S. Army team can put pressure on XP8. For Paraclete's ICL team in April, he was also in the lineups that posted five of the six April highscores. Terry Seaworth was player-coaching the Rookie Class lineup to the highscore for the RRR sequence.

Drew Starr also brought one of his new 8-way team mates to the ICL April event at Paraclete. Jon Clevenger was a member of the U.S. Army's 4-way Open Class lineup in 2017 and 2018. He was selected for the new Golden Knights 8-way team, as the NSL News reported on March 19th, and he has been eating, breathing and dreaming 8-way ever since.

However, Drew Starr and Jon Clevenger both got a break from 8-way training and competition and took on the AAA/AA sequences of the Indoor Cloud League in April, together with Greg Oldendick and Terry Seaworth.

Jessica Haugaard added that her ICL team continues to work on the bridge between indoor and outdoor competition: "We are slowly building up a base of newer fliers whom we would like to train to compete in Intermediate at the Nationals in September here at XP. We design it around a 3-to-1 coaching style, and we get incredible support from Skydive Paraclete XP for this project, just as much as we got from Paraclete XP every month for the ICL events. We also have the luxury of the wind tunnel if we have weather days, but emphasis is definitely on putting it out of a plane..."
