Did You Know...

... that VossVind Girls and HF Cubs share some of their 4-way Junior history?

Out of the Blue at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
posted May 23rd, 2019 - The presentation of the combined AAA Class leaderboard (4-way Open - 4-way Women) of the FAI Indoor World Meet, which was posted with the news update on April 29th, pointed out that a 20+ average was necessary to stay away from the bottom of the 4-way Open Class meet rankings.

The lowest result in this category was an 18.3 average, while Skynamite from Germany needed a 21.0 average to fend off the young Norwegian VossVind Girls in 4-way Women by one single point. The three teams at the bottom of the 4-way Women leaderboard still left three Open Class teams behind, all of them with all-male lineups.

In fact, the group of the same six teams was the largest one with strictly separated all-one-gender lineups. The rest of the combined leaderboard was a colorful mix of all possible lineup options. The largest group of four same-gender lineups (all-male) gathered behind NMP PCH HayaBusa and Weembi High Rollers.

The all-male lineups won by participation with a total of 13 teams, followed by nine teams in the 4-way Women event, and five mixed-gender lineups. Out of the Blue from the Netherlands, with a 2-2 lineup, placed right ahead of the three teams at the bottom of the 4-way Women leaderboard.

2014 - 2018: No Mercy from Poland
It was a good battle at the bottom of the 4-way Women leaderboard, between three very different teams. No Mercy from Poland had the most experienced lineup, which has been training and competing together since 2014. The 21.9 average was the team's second highest 10-round average and was enough to keep Skynamite and VossVind Girls in check.

The German team has an even longer history. The name goes back to the 2010 season, and the first scores on an NSL leaderboard were posted in 2012. However, the current lineup was new and had changed after the last place at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia, with Sylvia Schlaphof replacing Carola Fietz.

The new Skynamite lineup started with a new team record average (21.1) at the German Indoor Nationals, just three weeks before the indoor world meet, where they needed every single point of the 21.0 average to leave the VossVind Girls behind by one point.

Skynamite could have been closer to the Polish team without the 10-point damage, which was the second highest on the 4-way Women leaderboard. The Germans are aware of the penalty situation: "We do know now what to work even harder on - we were bust silver medalist in our category with 10 of them, next time it is our goal to finish with significantly less..."

VossVind Girls at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
The VossVind Girls from Norway share some of their 4-way Junior history with the current world champions from the Czech Republic. The VossVind Girls started even a year earlier in the A Class competition of the World Challenge 2015 and of their national indoor championships.

A year later, they were back at the World Challenge 2016, where they met the French Aerokart Ak'demie team in the AA Class. The HF Cubs still competed in the A Class when the 4-way juniors from France, Norway and Czech Republic all visited Bedford.

Then they met again at the end of the year at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2016 for the 4-way Junior competition with the AA Class dive pool. The HF Cubs passed the VossVind Girls at Flyspot in Poland and have never looked back ever since.

The VossVind Girls then stepped up into the AAA Class at the events they attended since 2017 and competed in 4-way Women at FAI/IPC events. HF Cubs continued for two more years in 4-way Junior and won the FAI gold medals at their last AA Class event at Weembi Lille. There is a very good chance that VossVind Girls and HF Cubs will soon meet again in 4-way Women at the next FAI event...
