Did You Know...

... that the race for new USPA Advanced Class medals has begun?

SDC RhEvolution XP at the Midwest Skydiving League 2018
posted May 26th, 2019 - The NSL News reported at the beginning of the year that SDC RhEvolution XP planned to move up into AAA Class competition after a 2nd place at the USPA Nationals 2018 in the AA/Intermediate Class.

The Midwest Skydiving League team had another change in the lineup before they attended the first competition in the new category, the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship. Jason Krumholz had joined the team in the middle of the 2018 season, while Greg Oldendick completed the 2019 lineup after Josh Reinert stepped back.

The new lineup finished in the middle of the AAA Class field at the indoor event in February and then began with the preparations for the outdoor season.

SDC RhEvolution XP had launched the 2018 season without attending the indoor competition. In fact, the May meet of the Midwest Skydiving League was the team's first meet last year and the start of the team career. It was again the season opener of the Midwest Skydiving League for the AAA Class outdoor start, even though SDC RhEvolution XP joined the NSL meet weekend at the Virginia Parachute Council, this weekend at Skydiving Orange.

SDC RhEvolution XP at the USPA Nationals 2018
The start into the new category and a slot in the Advanced Class competition of the USPA Nationals 2019 was not an easy one. The first 6-round draw for Midwest Skydiving League and Virginia Parachute Council brought four of the six slot-switching blocks to the AAA Class teams.

SDC RhEvolution XP mastered the team's first six outdoor competition rounds with a higher average compared to the AA Class season opener (11.8 - 11.2) last year.

SDC RhEvolution XP increased the 11.2 in May 2018 to 13.7 at the USPA Nationals, which was one single point behind the AA/Intermediate Class winner last year.

New team member Greg Oldendick won USPA's AAA/Advanced Class gold medal last year with Savage XP and a 17.4 average. The Advanced Class winner cannot come back in the same category, and even last year's silver medalist, Seattle Swift, have no plans for 2019. The NSL News reported on May 5th that Swift take a 1-year break.

This brings last year's Advanced Class bronze medalist, Elsinore Elevate, into the picture for the top spot at the USPA Nationals 2019.

Advanced Class medal winners at the USPA Nationals 2018: Savage XP - Seattle Swift - Elsinore Elevate
SDC RhEvolution XP's 2019 lineup in training
Elsinore Elevate is the only Top 10 team on USPA's Advanced Class leaderboard of 2018 who have posted outdoor scores this year so far, a 16.5 average after the season opener of the Southern California Skydiving League.

However, Elsinore Elevate started the 2019 season with a different lineup. Highly experienced 4-way Open Class competitor James "Bu" Klinge joined 4-way world champion Josh Hall at the SCSL season opener for a 16.5 average. Josh Hall was the team's player coach last year. Brian Schroeder and Zack Winoker came back in April with the new lineup.

Last year's Advanced Class gold medalist, Savage XP, had no serious competition and won with a 26-point lead. The team's 17.4 average would have won the 6th place on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard at the USPA Nationals 2018. The open question is for which USPA category Elsinore Elevate will sign up for, as the situation is similar as it was for Savage XP in 2018. The team's player-coach Kirk Verner, 4-way and 8-way world champion, had his current Paraclete XP 8-way team mate and newest Ranch 2nd Generation member Jeana Billings in the lineup of the Advanced Class winner.

Vega XP, AA/Intermediate Class champion of 2017, finished 8th in the AAA/Advanced Class of 2018 with a 13.1 average. Vega XP launched the team's second AAA Class season with an 18.0 indoor average at Paraclete XP in February, nine points ahead of SDC RhEvolution XP.
