Did You Know...

... that Mikhail Markine and Ari Perelman guided SCZ ZEUSpeed to the top of the WTL May rankings?

World Tunnel League meets in May
posted Jun 8th, 2019 - The May competition of the World Tunnel League was exclusively an exchange between west coast and east coast of the United States, with teams from Florida and Northern California.

The World Tunnel League indoor season of the teams in the Czech Republic was over after the April meet, even though they continue to post scores every month on the 14+ leaderboard of the Indoor Cloud League.

The Finnish Tunnel League is not done yet. In fact, the next meet is scheduled for June, and the upcoming World Tunnel League leaderboard will once again feature international competition.

The U.S. teams on the west and east coast alone still added up for a lot of interesting numbers and lineups. There was also a combination of west and east competitors in some of the lineups. Arizona Airspeed members attended some of the World Tunnel League events in Florida with different lineups when they visited for their popular indoor and outdoor training camps that SCZ ZEUS founder Amer Kassas is offering regularly to the Florida Skydiving League community.

SCZ ZEUSpeed: Mikhail Markine - Amer Kassas - Sebastian Jimenez - Ari Perelman
Three different SCZ ZEUS lineups took on the ten World Tunnel League rounds of May at iFLY Tampa. The ZEUSpeed lineup, who finished in 1st place on the AAA Class leaderboard, had Arizona Airspeed members Ari Perelman and Mikhail Markine in the two outside slots, and all ZEUSpeed members ended up in their usual A-slots.

Ari Perelman is the point for Airspeed, Mikhail Markine flies the tail. Sebastian Jimenez (outside center) and Amer Kassas (inside center) were also in their A-slots, and result of this perfect lineup was the highest 6-round average for both Florida competitors and the top of the May leaderboard.

A local lineup, with Sally Craig-Hathaway in the lineup, 4-way Women world champion of 2001, took the 2nd place behind ZEUSpeed, and separated the three different ZEUS lineups from each other. The other two ZEUS lineups were separated only by one single point behind the FSL Kickers from the Tampa area.

Emily Bombardi, Sebastian Jimenez and Amer Kassas took advantage of Mikhail Markine's presence with another ZEUS lineup and finished this one point ahead of the almost complete ZEUS lineup for the 2019 season.

Emily Bombardi, Randy Cutlip and Amer Kassas will train and compete together for SCZ ZEUS this year. Mike Talerico completes the lineup and was not available for the World Tunnel League events at iFLY Tampa in May. James Hall filled the open slot for him. The complete SCZ ZEUS lineup attended the first meet at iFLY Tampa in June and will also compete at the Paraclete XP Summer Classic.

The May leaderboard of the World Tunnel League featured a second 1-point battle in the AAA Class. The complete lineup of the Cali4nia Raptors left another FSL Kickers lineup behind without much training this year. Both teams performed the same six May sequences in 12-foot flying chambers, Cali4nia Raptors at iFLY SF Bay, FSL Kickers at iFLY Orlando. The AAA Class leaderboard is showing the teams in the ranking order after five rounds.

Cali4nia Kids won the AA Class competition with one change in the lineup. Will Harris was not available, and Cali4nia Raptor Dianna Frank took the point slot. The AA Class lineup of SDC ZEUS was not able to keep with the NCTL team.

The May competition of the World Tunnel League in Northern California also featured once again the visit of former Dutch national 4-way and 8-way competitor Rogier Carper, who has participated in WTL events at iFLY SF Bay before. He was player-coaching the AA and A Class lineups in May. He will be back for more, as his visit lasts for six months this time.
