Did You Know...

... that Joey Jones and Mattias Nord reported live from the Swedish Nationals?

AAA Class medal winners at the Swedish Nationals 2019
posted Jul 24th, 2019 - The Swedish Outdoor Nationals did not attract as many teams to the new location far away from the capital city Stockholm, compared to the skydiving center and previous host in Gryttjom, which is nearby Stockholm. Beautiful summer weather made it easy for the host to complete the 10-round meet.

As expected, Echochamber did not have any serious opposition, even though Aurora tied one of the national team's scores in Round 6, due to two point deductions for Echochamber.

Aurora's 21-pointer in Round 6 was still impressive and extremely important, as it interrupted Team C4's efforts to close the gap and catch up in the battle for 2nd place. Aurora had the better start and were five points ahead after Round 2, defending the lead successfully in the next two rounds.

Team C4 recovered in the same two rounds and finally won Round 5 by one point. Aurora's best round of the meet put Team C4 back in place and created the biggest lead of the meet for Aurora (7) that they defended successfully throughout Round 10. It's the first time for Aurora placing right behind Echochamber in 2nd place.

First time in 2nd place: Aurora at the Swedish Nationals 2019
The NSL News had the opportunity for a new NSL Live Talk with Joey Jones who was at the competition site coaching some Swedish teams. He provided details of the field of teams and shared the conversation with Mattias Nord, who is coaching and competing with Echochamber.

Joey Jones explained that Sweden's national team in 4-way Women, Team X, is now exclusively focusing on indoor competition. Another Swedish AAA Class top team, Edge, missed the national championships, as well, and are also spending more time in wind tunnels.

However, Echochamber are still fully dedicated to both 4-way environments. They plan to complete the outdoor season at the FAI World Cup at Skydive Arizona in October before switching back to indoor training and competition.

Mattias Nord explained that his team is planning to use indoor training even more productively for the outdoor season. Echochamber will use skydiving harness and gear to copy the outdoor conditions more realistically. He said that Echochamber is planning to make a big effort next year to pursue the peak performance and medal level at the FAI World Meet in Tanay.

5th place in 4-way Open: Echochamber at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia
Last weekend's Echochamber scores don't look very impressive and are actually lower than they were last year, and there was a reason for the lower performance level.

Echochamber had to take a break when Johan Edvall needed a knee surgery at the beginning of June. In fact, the team did not have much time for any training after coming back from Arizona and a training camp with Niklas Hemlin.

There was also not much time for training after Johan Edvall's recovery from the knee injury. Mattias Nord explained that the exits were difficult for his team mate, and the whole team felt "rusty" without much training.

Mattias Nord is one of the most experienced 4-way competitors in Sweden and in the world. He has placed two times in 5th place at FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving, with Norway's national team Arcteryx in 2008 and with Echochamber last year in Australia. The whole team is eager to improve their best placements next year in Tanay...
