Did You Know...

... that teams from Florida and Northern California battled on the AA Class leaderboard?

Arizona Skydiving League teams in Eloy
posted Aug 20th, 2019 - The AAA Class teams of the Arizona Skydiving League did not have additional competition from teams in other areas of the United States or in other countries last weekend, even though the Air Force Academy teams were actually visitors from Colorado.

Only new A Class team Tang and the Harpets posted their scores on the same leaderboard with two other teams from Florida and the Northwest.

DeLands Hit Show completed five rounds in Florida, even though the rainy pattern of the summer weather did not change on the meet weekend. SCZ Zeus and Furtheranze were completely rained out after Round 2 at Skydive City. DeLands Hit Show finished with a new team record average in the team's first year of A Class competition, and even outscored Team Shades on the AA Class leaderboard in Round 5, which had identical sequences between both categories.

The DeLand team is working on the additional eight blocks of the AA Class dive pool while competing in the A Class. DeLands Hit Show plan to compete in the Intermediate Class at the USPA Nationals next month, which applies the AA Class dive pool. Most likely, they will share USPA's Intermediate Class leaderboard with the two other AA Class teams from Florida who competed last weekend.

Pulled biceps muscle: Keith Walter
SCZ Zeus and Furtheranze were able to complete two rounds early in the morning before a heavy weather system reached Skydive City. Furtheranze had the complete lineup available for the August meet of the World Tunnel League on Friday evening at iFLYTampa before the outdoor competition at Skydive City.

SCZ Zeus had to replace outside center Mike Talerico, and SOCOM coach and competitor, former Golden Knights member Keith Walter, was helping out. He had bad luck in Round 2 when he pulled his left biceps muscle during the exit and would have had to sit out for any additional rounds.

The Florida duel between SCZ Zeus and Furtheranze ended tied before penalties after Round 2, and SCZ Zeus won by one point with less point deductions. This duel will continue in the Intermediate Class competition of the USPA Nationals.

A different Zeus lineup had competed in the Advanced Class competition of the USPA Nationals 2018. Only team founder Amer Kassas and videographer Patrick Fortune are back in the new 2019 lineup, this time with three AA/Intermediate Class competitors.

SCZ Zeus lineup on Friday evening at iFLY Tampa
Emily Bombardi had attended her first national championships with Hands Full in 2017. Ed Ganley was her team mate, while Amer Kassas competed with SCZ Zeus at his second nationals the same year. Ed Ganley won Intermediate Class bronze medals a year later at Skydive Chicago, where Amer Kassas competed in the Advanced Class.

Emily Bombardi and Ed Ganley had a reunion on Friday evening with SCZ Zeus at iFLY Tampa. Amer Kassas and Ed Ganley had also competed together for SCZ Zeus in the meantime. They had Lori Connor and Kurt Gaebel in the lineup at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship.

Lori Connor was also back at outdoor competition last weekend. Her Odyssey lineup completed four rounds in Northern California. Odyssey was one point ahead of SCZ Zeus and two points ahead of Furtheranze after Round 2.

The second AA Class team from Northern California, Low Key, with Dutch visitor Rogier Carper still in the lineup, was not too far behind the three teams after Round 2. It could have been an exciting 6-round competition with better weather...
