Did You Know...

... that Joey Jones expects a race of four teams for three medal positions at the UK Nationals?

UK Champion 2018: NFTO
posted Aug 22nd, 2019 - The UK Nationals are coming up this weekend, and Joey Jones has transitioned from Sweden to Skydive Hibaldstow in Great Britain. He had updated the NSL News with information from the Swedish Nationals on July 24th and mentioned that his next stop will be back on his current home turf.

He provided a preview of the upcoming national championships, where he is aiming at the medal positions with his own team, Eros.

He is expecting an interesting situation at the top of the leaderboard. There are probably four teams who have the potential for finishing in one of the three medal positions, and there is no sign that Satori XL may come back with a lineup. Satori XL won the UK Nationals in 2017 and placed 2nd last year, then competed for the British delegation in 4-way Open at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia.

NFTO, the British silver medalists in 4-way Women in Australia and at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019, are the defending British 4-way Open Class champions and the top favorite for the 1st place on the AAA Class leaderboard. However, Joey Jones is expecting Chimera to give NFTO a run for the top spot. He said that both teams have completed well over 200 outdoor training jumps this year.

UK Silver for Team 4mula in 2016
NFTO have not posted any outdoor scores since the world meet in October last year, where they finished with exactly the same meet average (20.2) that the French national team in 4-way Women have posted twice this year. NFTO's first 2019 outdoor scores will also define the new international starting point in this event, from the British perspective.

It is not only the first outdoor competition for NFTO this year. The upcoming ten rounds at the UK Natioanls are also the first outdoor competition for the new lineup. Kate Lindsley replaced Catherine Anderson in the point slot after the world meet in Australia and was already in the new lineup the same month, for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018 in Bahrain.

She competed with a pickup team at the UK Nationals 2017 and did not jump at last year's national championships, before traveling to Australia as NFTO's alternate for the outdoor world meet.

Joey Jones also mentioned a dark horse in the race for the BPA medals this weekend. Team 4mula is back with a new lineup, and Joey Jones is expecting the team to compete for the medal positions, as well.

Original NFTO lineup in 2015
Joey Jones and Kat Lindsley both have their own history with 4mula, which also includes NFTO member Sian Stokes. They trained and competed together with David Rodgers in 2016 and finished in 2nd place with an 18.4 average at the national championships.

All four 4mula members of 2016 are now training and competing in three different teams, Joey Jones with Eros, Kate Lindsley and Sian Stokes with NFTO, while David Rodgers is coming back with two more 4mula members of the 2017 lineup. David Rodgers, Will Cooke and Peter Mather, still with player-coach Joey Jones, posted an 18.9 average at the UK Nationals 2017 and won the silver medals.

The same three 4mula members of 2017 invited former NFTO member Ane Brentford to join the team for this weekend's national championship. Ane Brentford is one of the original NFTO members of 2015. Her former team mate Anna Hicks is still in the outside center slot for NFTO. Joey Jones is expecting this 4mula lineup to be competitive for the medal positions, even though the team was only able to complete approximately 30 training jumps so far.

Round 1 of the UK Nationals 2019 is scheduled for Saturday morning, and Joey Jones said that he will try to provide more information during the competition.
