Did You Know...

... that Gary Smith commented the series of national championships in Europe?

National 4-way champions 2019: French Girls
posted Sep 2nd, 2019 - The NSL News goes back to outdoor competition after a brief excursion to the Indoor Cloud League, which runs throughout the whole year.

NMP PCH HayaBusa coach Gary Smith was available for a new NSL Live Talk, which had the evaluation of the recent series of national championships as the main topic. Of course, the upcoming USPA Nationals became a part of the conversation, as well. The NSL News mentioned earlier that the Belgian 4-way world champions will compete as a guest team at Skydive Paraclete XP in Raeford.

Gary Smith said that the team is in good shape and will arrive a week early for a short training camp at the competition site. He will not be able to visit, as the Qatar Tigers have scheduled a training camp in Portugal for the same time period.

The review of the recent events in Europe had the French national championship as the starting point, which related later to the UK Nationals. France and Great Britain are aiming at the world's top spot in 4-way Women, while the all-female lineups are currently also the strongest 4-way teams in both countries.

The national championships in Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and Netherlands were part of the same NSL Live Talk, and Gary Smith added a lot of insights and details to the coverage that the NSL News had provided earlier.

He lives on the island of Texel in the Netherlands, and the Dutch Nationals caught his special attention naturally. In fact, Gary Smith was player-coaching the Dutch national 8-way team M8trix years ago, who won their next national title last week. Gary Smith had to quit the Dutch 8-way job when he began to work with the Qatar Falcons.

Qatar's 8-way team competed as a guest team at the German Nationals and finished below expectations and previous scoring levels. The Qatar Falcons are the reigning FAI bronze medalists after the 3rd place behind Golden Knights and Russia's Tanay 8-way team in Australia 2018.

Gary Smith explained that new Falcons coach Jeremie Rollett had to deal with a personnel change a few days before the start of the competition in Kassel. The change in the lineup had an impact on the performance level at this point in time.

Out of the Blue at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia
Gary Smith was also impressed with the Dutch 4-way performances at the national championship. It was not only Out of the Blue, the Dutch national team in 4-way Open, who moved up to a new performance level with the 17.4 average, with impressive scoring numbers.

In the wake of the Dutch 20+ Project, the team in second place, Chaotic Motion, also finished on a higher scoring level that teams from the Netherlands have shown in the past. Gary Smith said that it has been a very long time since two Dutch teams were on such a high performance level.

The 20+ Project has been discontinued, and the teams miss the financial support. However, Gary Smith said that the project itself initiated the progression of at least the two teams on the top of the national leaderboard. He said that Out of the Blue has been working mostly with HayaBusa member Dennis Praet this year.

Chaotic Motion has a few original Project 20+ members in their lineup, as well, and the team improved the 12.8 average at the Tomscat Trophy by more than two average points. The 14.9 last week would have won the Dutch national gold medals last year and is almost at the Out of the Blue level (15.3) at last year's world meet...
