Did You Know...

... that Dennis Praet and Marco Arrigo discussed 4-way and 8-way double duties?

posted Oct 11th, 2019 - The first event that was completed at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019 was the 4-way VFS competition, and Brianne Thompson won her first bronze medal. SDC Core defended the world's top spot successfully without any trouble. Russia's Vertical Flystation added the team's first outdoor FAI silver medals to the indoor ones that they won at the FAI Indoor World Meet this year.

Brianne Thompson's second 4-way team, Phoenix XP in 4-way Women, put themselves in a strong position too when they finally completed Round 7 on Friday morning and followed up with a strong Round 8. In fact, Phoenix XP won the last three consecutive rounds (7 - 9) and go into Round 10 with a 4-point lead. Brianne Thompson's second bronze medal seems to be secured, while the Fun Flag can still be anywhere at the end of the meet.

Dennis Praet and Marco Arrigo opened the day with a summary of the current situation and a preview of the last meet day. All teams had two more rounds on the Friday agenda, and meet director Bryan Burke was planning to get everything done at the end of the day, or even earlier.

The 8-way competition was over first, and the Russian winners of Tanay 8 could start with their celebration at noon in the Bent Prop drop zone restaurant and bar. Tanay 8 confirmed the world's top spot after the successful visit at the USPA Nationals.

Double duties: Steve Lefkowitz and Andrew Happick with the SDC Rhythm XP
Dennis Praet and Marco Arrigo discussed the difficulties of double duties as a part of their NSL Live Talk on Friday morning. Both have experiences in 4-way and 8-way and know about the intensity of each event, while they have not competed at world meets or world cups with double duties.

Dennis Praet's wife Clementine Le Bohec was in the middle of 4-way and 8-way double duties at the world cup in Eloy. She and her team mates in the French 4-way Women team will continue with this French strategy.

It was a successful start for the French delegation. The French 8-way team finished ahead of Paraclete XP8 and only five points behind Tanay 8 at the team's first competition. The three reigning world champions in the 4-way Women lineup are fending off the NFTO challenge with a 15-point lead after Round 9. New member Gaelle Giesen has been integrated with little training to a 20.9 average.

Paraclete XP8 will be in a similar situation with two SDC Rhythm XP members. The discussion of the double duties becomes even more interesting after the conclusion of the world cup...
