... that NMP PCH HayaBusa once again unified the three 4-way world titles?

NMP PCH HayaBusa at the CISM Championship in China
posted Oct 26th, 2019 - NMP PCH HayaBusa have once again unified the three world championship titles in Formation Skydiving competition. They won the military CISM Championship earlier this week with a 35.5 average in China.

The NSL News had reported that the participation in the military event was the reason that the Belgians could not compete at the FAI Outdoor World Cup at Skydive Arizona, where Airspeed won the gold medals in the absence of the outdoor world champions.

HayaBusa had visited the USPA Nationals instead to meet the best U.S. 4-way teams and won with the highest outdoor meet average (28.9) in history. The 35.5 average at the CISM Championship is the second highest 8-round result at this event, after the 36.0 average that HayaBusa posted in 2011.

The CISM Championship has its own rules, which are very different compared to FAI/IPC events. Each sequence has a Star as the exit formation, and the working time begins after five seconds or whenever the team breaks the Star. Two random formations and a block follow in different variations.

Swiss Airheads at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 at Weembi Lille
The CISM world championship title is the one that NMP PCH HayaBusa has owned for the longest time. It is an annual event that HayaBusa won for Belgium first time in 2007. This year's title was the 13th consecutive time for the Belgians in 1st place.

HayaBusa won their first FAI Outdoor World Meet title in 2014 and added the FAI Indoor World Meet title in 2015. They have defended their world championship titles in all three events successfully ever since.

Once again, they finished far ahead of the rest of the field in China this week. The Qatar Tigers had stolen a round at the previous CISM Championship last year and tied another one. This time, all eight rounds were claimed solely by the Belgians. The Qatar Falcons themselves won the military silver medals far ahead of the next teams.

There was a new edition of the serious battle for the CISM bronze medals between Germany and Switzerland that the Airheads won by two points to take the 3rd place for the second consecutive time. The two teams went into Round 8 with a 1-point difference to the advantage of the Swiss team. HayaBusa's David Grauwels said that a very nervous last round followed where both teams lost five points due to penalties, and Airheads came out as the winner.

German Airfource at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 at Weembi Lille
There was a 5th team that competes at civilian FAI events, as well. Papea Masculino from Spain finished behind the two bronze medal contenders and completed the sweep for the five teams who compete on both sides of the 4-way competition world. The same five teams met each other last time at the FAI Indoor World Meet in April this year at Weembi Lille. A total of 26 countries had registered teams for the 4-way competition at the CISM Championship.

Only the German team did not compete with the same lineup at both events. Three members of the German Bundeswehr (Christian Kautzmann, Elischa Weber, Stefan Wiesner) have also been training and competing with Airfource, where Christian Schafer completes the lineup for the civilian events. Kai Erthel and Christoph Zahler competed with the military Bundeswehr lineup in China.

NMP PCH HayaBusa will not take a real winter break after the end of the outdoor season this year. David Grauwels said his team has scheduled 4-way and 8-way indoor training in the coming weeks. The next outdoor training camp follows in November at Skydive City, host of the Shamrock Showdown 2020.

He said that HayaBusa still have enough of their own goals, even without much direct pressure from any opponents: "We want to conclude this lineup in style and class before handing the torch to our next generation..."
