Did You Know...

... that Finland is once again chasing Sweden in 4-way?

Pro Team debriefing at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
posted Nov 12th, 2019 - The Pro Team from Finland was one of the few teams who were able to finish the ten rounds at the FAI Outdoor World Cup with a new team record average, due to the challenging competition draw in Eloy.

The team's new outdoor record number came shortly after two new indoor records at the World Tunnel League meets in June (26.1) and September (26.2) at the Fööni wind tunnel in Helsinki, Finland's capital city.

The NSL News pointed out during the coverage of the FAI event in October that the Pro Team's lineup includes one of the two teenagers who competed at the world cup, Kalle Pohjola. Alban Rumolo from France was the second 19-year old competitor in Eloy. Kalle Pohjola's father Kimmo Pohjola is the outside center for the Pro Team.

Kalle Pohjola and Alban Rumolo will meet each other again next year at the FAI Outdoor World meet, where Alban Rumolo will try to win a gold medal in 8-way and also compete once again in 4-way.

Kalle Pohjola and his Pro Team will try to get even closer to the French national team in 4-way Open, after finishing five points behind in Eloy. The NSL News reported earlier that the Pro Team is planning to compete in Russia next year after missing the last world meet in Australia.

Pro Team break at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
The FAI World Meet 2020 is already in the Pro Team's mind, and the plans are complete for next year. In fact, the preparations began shortly after returning from Arizona to Finland with a weekend training camp at the wind tunnel in Helsini.

The Pro Team have scheduled indoor training for one weekend each month between now and April, which will also prepare the team for the next FAI Indoor World Cup in Belgium in April 2020. The Pro Team had represented Finland at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 at Weembi Lille, as well.

Plan is to switch to outdoor training right after the indoor world cup, even though the indoor training will continue in May and June. The Pro Team members will use their skydiving equipment in the flying chamber to simulate the outdoor environment as good as possible.

The actual outdoor training between May and July will take place in Empuriabrava, Spain, and in Gryttjom, Sweden. Some of the indoor training in Helsinki and outdoor training in Gryttjom will be combined with coaching camps, as well, where the Pro Team members will share their own experiences with other skydivers from Finland and Sweden. Most likely, Sweden's national 4-way team Echochamber and the Pro Team will meet each other at some outdoor summer camps in Gryttjom.

Echochamber at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
The Pro Team will have a busy competition schedule, as well, after attending six indoor and outdoor meets in 2019, and another indoor meet coming up this month. The Finnish indoor meets of the World Tunnel League and the national indoor championship are on the indoor schedule before the FAI Indoor World Cup.

The first outdoor competition next year is either the Swedish or the Finnish 4-way championship, where Echochamber and Pro Team could have their internal Scandinavian meet test and a preview of the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2020. There will not be much time for the last adjustments after the outdoor competition before the journey to Russia in August.

The FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving is the ultimate goal for all national teams every other year. The Pro Team missed the last one in Australia where Echochamber peaked with the 5th place and a 21.5 average. However, both teams were facing each other directly at the FAI Indoor World Meet at Weembi Lille in April.

The Pro Team now finished in 8th place at the world cup, only four points behind Echochamber. The 18.5 average in Eloy would have copied the Tanay Wolves in Australia who finished in 11th place, which was the Pro Team's finishing position at the indoor world meet in April. The Top 10 in Russia 2020 is surely in reach for the Pro Team, and Echochamber plan to go back up to at least the same 5th place as in Australia 2018 - with the Pro Team on their heels...
