Did You Know...

... that Josh Hall released the 2020 schedule of the Southern California Skydiving League?

Southern California Skydiving League 2020 schedule
posted Dec 18th, 2019 - The outdoor training and competition season in America and Europe has been over for a while. Teams and competitors have mostly turned to the wind tunnels, with a few exceptions in Florida, Southern California and locations in the southern parts of Europe.

At the same time, the planning for the 2020 season is either completed, as well, or it is in full swing at this point in time. Josh Hall, Arizona Airspeed 4-way world champion of 2012, has finalized his schedule for the 2020 season of the Southern California Skydiving League that he has been managing for several years.

The season opener takes place on his home turf at Skydive Elsinore, and Skydive San Diego is hosting the second SCSL competition in August next year. Skydive Perris concludes the 2020 season in October. It is a long competition season and a late date for the last SCSL meet for a good reason. The USPA Nationals will be hosted by Skydive City in Zephyrhills, Florida, and November usually guarantees a great weather situation after the end of the hurricane season.

Teams are often using the meets of the NSL Network to collect competition experiences and apply them at the major U.S. event of the year, the USPA Nationals. The last league meet is then the final test before the first competition round at the national championships.

USPA bronze medals in 2018: Elsinore Elevate
Josh Hall's Elsinore team, Elevate, has applied this format of meet preparation very successfully in the last two years. Elsinore Elevate attended both meets of the Southern California Skydiving League in 2018 and was well prepared for the Advanced Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2018. Result was a set of bronze medals in a field of 21 teams.

The format worked so well that Elevate and player-coach Josh Hall copied it for the 2019 season and turned the bronze medals into USPA silver at Skydive Paraclete XP. Only home team Redline XP, with player-coach Kirk Verner in the lineup, placed ahead of Elevate in a field of 18 Advanced Class teams.

Elsinore Elevate had once again attended both SCSL meets before traveling to North Carolina, two weeks after the August meet of the Southern California Skydiving League. Elevate also used one indoor meet of the World Tunnel League in California to add competition experiences to the preparations for the national championship.

Josh Hall knows about the value of real competition practice, after years of intensive training and competition with Perris Fury and then Arizona Airspeed.

USPA silver medals in 2019: Elsinore Elevate
Josh Hall is not the only highly experienced 4-way competitor in Southern California who uses the SCSL meets for the same purpose. His Perris Fury team mate Christy Frikken sent her own player-coach team Perris Force to the regional meets, including the last one before the USPA Nationals this year.

Perris Force had to get ready for the upcoming battle for the U.S. top spot in 4-way Women. Phoenix XP and Aviatrixx would have the same goal of qualifying as the U.S. national team in 4-way Women for the next FAI World Meet in Tanay 2020. Perris Force increased the scoring level significantly after the last test in Southern California, even though the 14.2 average at the USPA Nationals was still not enough to defeat Aviatrixx.

Last and not least, Arizona Airspeed legend Dan BC competed with his Perris Goldilocks and 4 Bears at the same SCSL meet in August, as well, and then competed in the USPA Advanced Class a few weeks later on a significantly higher level. Team member Jerry Elliott enjoyed his 4-way training and competition with Dan BC so much that he made new plans for the 2020 season. Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard will be the new Goldilocks members, together with Dan BC.

It's time for teams and competitors in Southern California to add the three SCSL 2020 meets to their calendars...
