Did You Know...

... that Friday was moving day at the Wind Games?

Need pressure: NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Jan 31st, 2020 - Three more rounds were completed on Friday at the Wind Games. The remaining two rounds are scheduled for Saturday.

None of the 21 teams, including the three in 4-way Women, were able to maintain the scoring average of the first five rounds, due to the slower sequences on the second day. It is still very impressive that six of the teams mastered the two 3-block sequences in Round 2 (1,13,4) and Round 8 (10,16,22) with 20+ scores.

NMP PCH HayaBusa once again benefited from the surprising and unexpected pressure that Arizona Airspeed put on the indoor and outdoor world champions throughout the whole first half of the competition. The Belgians have explained in earlier NSL News conversations that it is helpful for them to feel a challenger pushing the performance level upwards.

HayaBusa reacted accordingly and posted highscores for each of the three rounds on Friday. However, they were still not able to totally shake off the new Airspeed lineup, who are still impressing the whole field and the audience with their world-class scores right behind the Belgians.

Warmed up after Round 5: Nephtys Weembi in Spain
Friday was a new moving day after the first dust had settled on Thursday. The teams had time to evaluate and come up with a strategy for the next three rounds. NMP PCH HayaBusa were obviously humbled by the Airspeed performance and could not afford to give away more rounds.

IFS-Moscow was the other team with a need for adjustments, and the Russian world-class indoor team reacted just as effectively as HayaBusa did. Result was the move from 6th to 4th place and a 4-point lead over Weembi Unicorns. Arizona Airspeed and SDC Rhythm XP still own the positions right behind HayaBusa with their best career averages, while IFS-Moscow have taken the expected top spot behind the full-time competitors.

ISR FireFlash is the other amateur team in this group of world-class 4-way teams, and the second Belgian team is also still standing with a team record average despite the three slower rounds. All teams should be able to at least maintain their current scoring levels in the last two rounds.

Another move took place in 4-way Women, even though the rankings have not changed. The French Nephtys Weembi, still reigning indoor world champions, did not win or tie a round on Thursday and were 13 points behind NFTO. This changed on Friday, and the French national indoor team could at least win two rounds. NFTO still has a commanding lead of 12 points.

Equinox in 2013
The NSL News had introduced the promising Austrian team Black Mantis on 3 October 2019. Black Mantis had a late start, and the scores were added to the leaderboard with a delay. Austria has a presence again at the bigger 4-way meets, and Black Mantis is not even far away from the Top 10.

Blue Steel from Finland was also on the move on Friday and left Papea and Vossvind Girls behind. Black Mantis is the new target for the Scandinavian team of the Finnish Tunnel League.

Last and not least, Equinox from Lithuania have broken the tie with the Italian team Standby. Two of the original team members of 2012 (Rasa Skuodiene, Algimantas Skuodis) are still in the current lineup. Equinox won the first two rounds, before the Italian team came back and tied this duel at the bottom of the leaderboard after Round 5.

Equinox won the three rounds on moving day by three points and will try to defend the 20th place on Saturday.
