Did You Know...

... that Andrew Starr, Gary Smith and Jeremie Rollett discussed recent topics?

posted Feb 5th, 2020 - Things are moving quickly this world meet year, and it is extremely busy for several world class teams and competitors. The NSL News has explained in several earlier updates who is involved in 2020 double duties. Golden Knights team captain Andrew Starr has been in this group since he joined SDC Rhythm XP.

The Wind Games launched this busy season on the competitive side for Andrew Starr and the other teams and competitors with double duties. Actually, there was no 4-way team in Spain that trains and competes in 8-way at the same time. However, there were still competitors like Andrew Starr who have additional 8-way assignments.

Arizona Airspeed members Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine were threatening NMP PCH HayaBusa in the first five rounds, and they are also training with Airspeed XP8 for the 8-way competition at this year's the world meet.

Dmitry Samokhval has been competing with the Russian indoor team IFS-Moscow, while he prepares in 8-way for the same event as Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine. At least, IFS-Moscow keeps him only busy with indoor training, and he is jumping from planes only with Tanay's 8-way team. Arizona Airspeed is an indoor and outdoor 4-way team.

Golden Knights 8-way training at Skydive City
Clementine Le Bohec is in the same situation as the two Airspeed members and Andrew Starr. She trains and competes in both French national teams, in 4-way Women with the French Weembi Girls, and in 8-way, as well. She spends her additional time either with her husband and NMP PCH HayaBusa member Dennis Praet or with Weembi Unicorns, as she did at the Wind Games.

The rest of the field at last week's 4-way event are amateur teams, and the members are investing all of their private time for training and competition with their 4-way teams and/or other recreational skydiving activities.

The NSL News had the opportunity to meet Andrew Starr this week. The Golden Knights started their first training camp of the year on Monday at Skydive City in Zephyrhills, Florida. Andrew Starr had just returned from Spain the day before, and he switched from 4-way competition action with SDC Rhythm XP to 8-way training with the Golden Knights without much rest at all.

The Golden Knights had good company at Skydive City, as the Qatar delegation was back for more training at the same time, together with their coaches Gary Smith and Jeremie Rollett.

Qatar coaches Jeremie Rollett and Gary Smith this week at Skydive City
Andrew Starr, Gary Smith and Jeremie Rollett took some extra time to discuss the situation after the Wind Games and other topics with the NSL News at the end of the day. In fact, there were even more Formation Skydiving celebrities at Skydive City who had just left before the arrival of the NSL News.

The Qatar delegation also includes two new 4-way teams who train and compete to become a new generation of 4-way and 8-way competitors. Former HayaBusa member Luc Verstrepen and French 4-way and 8-way world champion Marin Ferre are coaching the new teams, and their training camp was completed a few days before the Golden Knights arrived.

Jeremie Rollett said that he had his complete lineup back together for training, after a whole camp with the team's alternate filling a slot in January. He will meet Andrew Starr and the Golden Knights soon again for the 8-way competition at the Shamrock Showdown.

There he will also compete with SDC Rhythm XP, and Gary Smith will try to have the Qatar Tigers ready for the first showdown between the two FAI medal contenders of 2020. Andrew Starr will then switch back and forth between 4-way and 8-way competition, in a similar way as he has to expect it at this year's world meet...
