Did You Know...

... that several teams move up to higher competition classes at the World Challenge?

Ketchup ADV at the World Challenge 2019
posted Feb 28th, 2020 - The NSL News continues with the preview of the World Challenge 2020, after covering Arizona Airspeed's 10th trip to Bedford on February 21st.

Joey Jones is bringing back the same Eros lineup as in 2019, when the British top team won the bronze medals behind NFTO and Chimera at the UK Nationals, only eight points behind the 1st place and two behind 2nd after ten rounds. The World Challenge will probably feature the re-match of the same three British teams.

KetchUP ADV is last year's winner of the AA Class competition. The NSL News reported on 28 June 2019 that the Italian team had moved up into AAA Class competition after the 23.5 at the World Challenge 2019. They followed up with 22.1 on the AAA leaderboard of the Italian Indoor Nationals and 21.0 at the ISR Grand Prix 2019. The World Challenge will be KetchUP ADV's first competition this year.

Jazz Republic's Claire King and Dirk Venter will once again provide the InTime scoring system, first at the Shamrock Showdown in March, then at the World Challenge in April. Twinwoods Adventure and the judges don't need Claire King and Dirk Venter any longer to run the system, so they have been competing at the indoor events with their South African team and finished with a 21.8 team record average last year.

Ballista at the World Challenge 2015
Ayro from Belgium won AA Class bronze medals at the World Challenge 2018, came back for AAA Class competition a year later, and matched their AA average (17.0 - 16.8) almost exactly. The 2020 season is the team's second year in the AAA Class.

Ballista from Ireland is once again traveling across the Irish Sea after a 2-year break. Tommy Butler, David Graham and Stephen Ross competed at three World Challenges (2015 - 2017), first with Meirbhin O'Conaill, then with Stephen O'Sullivan in the lineup.

Mikhail Baskov is their new team mate in the outside center slot, and the World Challenge 2020 will be the team's first competition in the AAA Class.

The AA Class field is a colorful mixture of international teams and has one clear top favorite with Flyspot Omega from Poland. Omega started in the Rookie Class of 2017 and placed 2nd (24.6) at the World Challenge, then came back a year later for a 2nd place (21.3) in the A Class. Last year, Flyspot Omega posted scores on the AA Class leaderboard and finished 4th with an 18.4 average.

Flyspot Omega at the World Challenge 2019
Flyspot Omega's scoring and performance level is now at 21+ after the visit to the Czech Open Indoor Championship in January, and there was no other top contender registered yet for the World Challenge.

The NSL News reported on January 21st that the Skydive Recruitz are aiming at a 20+ average level this year. Twinwoods Adventure's 4-way junior home team would become a medal contender if they can lift their performance level accordingly. The British 4-way juniors are one of the teams who will travel from Bedford to Charleroi in Belgium shortly after the World Challenge and compete at the FAI Indoor World Cup.

Poland has another top contender in the A Class. Crazy Donut have attended four meets in the Rookie Class last year. They have signed up for the A Class competition at the World Challenge, which usually includes a few Rookie Class sequences. The team's highest Rookie Class average of 26.9 indicates that they will take full advantage of any sequences with only random formations.

The list of teams will be updated soon, and the NSL News will follow up with more previews.
