Did You Know...

... that Golden Knights Gold scrambled their slots for the new 4-way lineup?

Golden Knights 8-way lineup of 2020
posted Mar 22nd, 2020 - The NSL News covered the 8-way competition on the top of the leaderboard at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020 with the story on March 3rd. As expected, the Golden Knights could not keep up with the new and well trained Airspeed XP8 lineup. However, the performance of the U.S. Army team was still more than promising for the future of the team.

The 25.9 average at the end of last month was significantly higher than last year, when the previous lineup posted a 21.3 average at the beginning of the year at the same event and the same location. Only the world champion lineups of the last decade scored higher at the indoor events, and the current lineup includes only four previous world champions (Jen Davidson, Drew Starr, Jesse Stahler, David Flynn).

Team captain Drew Starr had provided the NSL News with an overview of his plan in an interview during the Paraclete XP Summer Classic. Things changed for the Golden Knights between the Paraclete XP Summer Classic and the end of the 2019 season, and Drew Starr also committed to help out SDC Rhythm XP as the inside center for the 2020 outdoor season until the FAI World Meet in Tanay. The NSL News update on January 8th included an interview with the complete Rhythm lineup and Drew Starr at Skydive Sebastian.

Then the Golden Knights 8-way team visited Skydive City for a winter training camp, and a new NSL Live Talk with Gary Smith, Jeremie Rollett and Drew Starr covered several topics in the run-up to the Shamrock Showdown 2020, which had to be canceled later, due to the corona virus situation.

The NSL News followed up with another interview on February 14th, this time with three Golden Knights members and 8-way world champions: Jen Davidson, Drew Starr, Jesse Stahler. They explained a new approach of the Golden Knights to their Formation Skydiving competition training, which includes different methods and more 4-way.

Jen Davidson, Drew Starr and Jesse Stahler were in the Golden Knights 4-way lineup at the Paraclete XP Summer Classic, where Matt Davidson competed the last time for the Golden Knights and together with his wife, Jen Davidson. He has joined Airspeed XP8 and competed with Arizona Airspeed, first at the USPA Nationals 2019, and then at the FAI Outdoor World Cup. Jen and Matt Davidson are now opponents in 8-way, and Jen Davidson is still in the Golden Knights Gold 4-way team, as well.

Jen Davidson, Drew Starr and Jesse Stahler had to select a 4th team member for their 4-way lineup, and Nik Grimm became their new Gold team mate in the point slot. He is piece partner with outside center Jesse Stahler, who was in the Gold team in 2016 and won 8-way world championship gold medals 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The Golden Knights Gold team scrambled their 4-way slots completely to accommodate the new lineup. Last year, Jen Davidson (point) and Drew Starr (outside center) were the front piece for Golden Knights Gold. Jen Davidson now took her husband's inside center slot, and Drew Starr is the new tail. He is the inside center for SDC Rhythm XP.

Newest member Nik Grimm is in the front piece and is facing the additional memory challenges that this position is bringing. However, the new Gold lineup (25.4) was not too far behind last year's strong and experienced Gold team (26.3) with Jennifer Davidson, Matt Davidson, Drew Starr and Sean Sweeney at the Paraclete XP indoor meet. Golden Knights Black's tail Rico Sifuentes is filling in for Drew Starr when he is training with SDC Rhythm XP.
