Did You Know...

... that NMP PCH HayaBusa member Dennis Praet evaluated ten Windabona Black Mantis rounds?

World champion marriage proposal in Australia 2018
posted Mar 24th, 2020 - The last NSL Live Talk conversation with NMP PCH HayaBusa member Dennis Praet took place under very different circumstances. His team had completed a winter training camp at Skydive City, and he spent extra time in Florida while he was waiting for the arrival of the French national teams and their own training camp at Skydive DeLand.

There was only a week between the end of the HayaBusa camp and the beginning of the French outdoor preparations for the Shamrock Showdown. Dennis Praet's wife Clementine, formerly Le Bohec, is a member of the French national 8-way team and reigning 4-way outdoor world champion in 4-way Women.

It was not the Belgian/French married couple's honeymoon in Florida that came to an end when the travel restrictions between Europe and the United States were set in place, and the French delegation departed a week before the scheduled end of the visit.

HayaBusa member David Grauwels had joined the NSL Live Talk conversation on March 11th via ZOOM from Belgium, while Dennis Praet was still in DeLand. The topics were related to NMP PCH HayaBusa's situation in the run-up to the next battle for the 4-way world champion title defense later this year in Tanay, Russia, if the event will take place.

Windabona Black Mantis with coach Dennis Praet
The new NSL Live Talk with Dennis Praet, which was recorded on March 24th, took place remotely via ZOOM, as he and his wife are currently isolated at their home in Belgium, where they are waiting out the corona virus pandemic, as most people in countries across the world are doing.

There was a different and specific topic that was on the new NSL Live Talk agenda. The NSL News reported on March 21st that Windabona Black Mantis had won the Austrian Indoor Nationals at the end of February. The event was completed before the corona virus restrictions in Austria impacted on the operation of the wind tunnel in Vienna, as well.

Dennis Praet has been coaching the team for a while. He had met the team when he was invited by the wind tunnel operators to run indoor training camps for Austrians and other visitors at the new place. His work at Windabona was successful, and Black Mantis enjoyed his coaching style. They asked him to visit again in Austria only for team coaching, and the cooperation helped to generate the first two national indoor titles for Black Mantis.

Black Mantis have now a 22.0 average at the Wind Games in their records, followed by the 24.0 national record average at their indoor championships, including a new Austrian highscore for a single round.

New jumpsuits - new style: Black Mantis in action
Dennis Praet was not in Vienna when the national indoor championship took place. However, Black Mantis provided the NSL News with the video footage, and coach Dennis Praet had the opportunity to watch the ten competition rounds for the first time during the NSL Live Talk.

The conversation was a combination of his experiences with the Austrian team and a debriefing, while other topics were covered, as well.

He said that Black Mantis had to update their flying style when they replaced their old jumpsuits with the same ones that NMP PCH HayaBusa is currently using. He explained that the newest generation of jumpsuits is more efficient and effective and generates more power, which has an impact on a team's flying style. He added that the design of his own team's jumpsuits allows to use them for indoor and outdoor training and competition both.

He detected a few critical situations (Block 6) where center-point violations could have been caused by the camera angle. He said that hosts of other indoor events are placing the video camera in the center of the flying chamber to avoid similar judging issues. Continuity plans, swing moves and the benefits of accepting slot-switching sequences were additional topics that came up in the conversation.
