Did You Know...

... that Amer Kassas and Alex Jordaan completed 40 meet rounds in two days?

Four different leaderboards: Alex Jordaan (2nd from left)
posted Mar 30th, 2020 - It is nothing unusual at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship events that participants sign up to compete with more than one team, and switching back and forth between 4-way and 8-way competition is normal procedure even at world cups and world championships.

The NSL News pointed out several double duties with earlier updates in the aftermath of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020, which included competitors who were in the lineups of different teams in the same event, 4-way or 8-way.

However, there were two extremely passionate 4-way fans who wanted more than only one or two teams, and they also competed in 8-way. Alex Jordaan and Amer Kassas have two very different backgrounds and represent a long history in the sport (Alex Jordaan), and a newer generation of 4-way fans (Amer Kassas). Both share the desire for competition action and the unlimited passion for the sport.

Alex Jordaan was the only competitor at Paraclete XP who appeared on all four NSL leaderboards. He competed in all three 4-way events (Befokte Dose - Flying Spaghetti Monsters - Fourmidables) and added 8-way competition to his agenda with VegaSpeed FSM8. He and Amer Kassas completed 40 competition rounds in the two meet days at Paraclete XP.

Amer Kassas shared a leaderboard with Alex Jordaan only in one event. He had a very different agenda and completed 30 of his 40 competition rounds in the AA/Intermediate Class (SDC ZEUS 1 - SDC ZEUS 2 - AVG + 1) where Alex Jordaan competed with Fourmidables. His SCZ ZEUS 8-way team posted their scores in the Intermediate Class of the 8-way competition.

The three teams with Amer Kassas competed directly with and against each other, and he had back-to-back flying sessions between AVG + 1 and his first SCZ ZEUS lineup.

SCZ ZEUS with Ryan Weeks in the lineup won the internal competition against the same three ZEUS members (Amer Kassas, Randy Cutlip, Mike Talerico) with Eric Gin.

Ryan Weeks was in the Platinum XP lineup that won the Intermediate Class gold medals at the USPA Nationals 2019.

Amer Kassas had also put together the Teiwaz lineup for the Paraclete XP meet, where he did not take an active slot. However, SCZ ZEUS 2 and Teiwaz members joined forces for the 8-way competition, with Golden Knights videographer Andy Sippl completing the lineup.

Amer Kassas (left) and his first ZEUS lineup in 2013: "How can I survive without 4-way...?"
Amer Kassas and Alex Jordaan have more in common than their desire and passion for Formation Skydiving competition. They trained and competed together with ZEUS in 2018. Ian Pedowitz and Jimmy Xu completed the ZEUS lineup that posted scores in the AAA/Advanced Class of the USPA Nationals 2018, with Patrick Fortune on camera.

Amer Kassas fell in love with 4-way competition when he attended his first FSL Tunnel Kicker 4-way and Indoor Cloud League events in 2013. Soon after, he put together his first ZEUS lineup at Skydive City (Bob Byrne, James Hopkins, Amer Kassas, Ryan Taylor). He began to tailor his whole life to match his new passion and put more and new efforts into it year by year.

He is now running and managing all 4-way indoor and outdoor events in Florida, and he was the main driving force to bring the Shamrock Showdown and the USPA Nationals 2020 to Skydive City.

His participation in the four different teams at Paraclete XP is only the latest evidence that he is not getting tired at all of putting all of his energy into his family and Formation Skydiving competition. In fact, he was devastated when dropzones and wind tunnels were recently shut down due to the corona virus pandemic: "How can I survive without 4-way...?"
