Did You Know...

... that Kinetix confirmed the 18+ level in Australia?

18.1 at the Australian Nationals 2020
posted Mar 31st, 2020 - The current scores on the front page of SKYLEAGUE.COM will probably stay there for a while before they will be replaced after the next Formation Skydiving competition. They came from Australia, where the last 4-way meet, the national championships, was held at Skydive Nagambie. Drop zones and wind tunnels were eventually shut down in Australia in March, as well, due to the corona virus pandemic.

Kinetix defended their 4-way title successfully that they won last year for the first time. The NSL News had covered the new Australian national 4-way team comprehensively on 8 November 2019 after the team's very busy competition season.

There was once again no serious challenger at the national championship, and Kinetix confirmed their 18+ outdoor level before going into the corona virus break. The last challenger was the previous national 4-way team Rotor Out, who still won the national 4-way title in 2018 and have not returned to 4-way competition after representing Australia for many years and lastly at the FAI World Meet 2018.

Kinetix and Rotor Out were facing each other only once at the Australian Nationals 2018, which turned out to be the starting point for Kinetix and the last national championship for Rotor Out. The 4-way champions of 2018 discontinued undefeated in domestic 4-way competition. Only team videographer Patrick Nygren came back and has been on camera for Kinetix ever since.

Most likely, Kinetix would have liked to defeat Rotor Out at a 4-way competition, especially at the national championship. However, the new national 4-way team still has the scoring numbers of Rotor Out to look at, and the above mentioned news story pointed out that Kinetix already owns the highest 10-round average in Australian 4-way history.

Rotor Out competed for Australia at four FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving (2012 - 2014 - 2016 - 2018) and finished on home soil in October 2018. Kinetix is now qualified to represent Australia at the next world meet, which is scheduled for August this year in Tanay, Russia.

The new Australian national team in 4-way Open is not the only one who have set the FAI World Meet 2020 as the main goal. Unfortunately, it is unclear at this point in time whether FAI and host will be able to run the event considering the current situation of the worldwide corona virus crisis.

The NSL News mentioned earlier that the FAI officials plan to decide at the end of May whether the event will take place or not.

Kinetix would not only have the previous Rotor Out scoring numbers to be compared with. The placing of the national teams at world championships is also a very important part of the event, not only for the medal positions. The final placings of each country's national team have been a part of the previous FAI world rankings, and even the financial support by the national skydiving federations often depends on the results of the national teams.

Some countries use the placings and results at previous world meets to set the benchmarks for qualification and/or financial support.

Rotor Out made the Top 10 at the team's first two world meets, with 9th places in Dubai 2012 and Prostejov 2014. Then they dropped to 12th in 2016 and 2018. Kinetix will probably be eager to go back up to a Top 10 position, which could come along with a 20-average level.

The currently confirmed 18+ level would bring Kinetix closer to the Top 10. Rotor Out's 12th place in Australia 2018 came with a 17.2 average. The 20+ level would have opened up a door to a tight competition with several teams, and a Top 10 spot would almost be guaranteed. However, first of all, the corona crisis needs to be mastered successfully before teams will travel to Russia and compete for the best scoring numbers and ranking positions...
