... that NSL Live Talk continues with the new NFTO lineup?

NFTO 2020/2021 lineup at the Wind Games
posted Apr 27th, 2020 - The NSL Live Talk series of online interviews continues with NFTO, the reigning British indoor and outdoor 4-way champions, who are also the reigning FAI/ISC silver medalists after the Outdoor World Meet 2018 and the Indoor World Meet 2019.

All current team members, including videographer Simon Brentford, attended the online conversation, which took place only three days after the International Skydiving Commission (ISC) of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) announced officially that the Mondial 2020 has been rescheduled.

The timing of the new NSL Live Talk with NFTO shortly after the announcement by FAI/ISC was pure coincidence. After several updates from different teams in different countries, the NSL News was also interested how NFTO is mastering the corona virus crisis. The team members joined the conversation from five different locations in Great Britain, including Twinwoods Adventure, host of the annual World Challenge, where Sian Stokes spent some of her time on the slides in the playhouse.

The British Parachute Association (BPA) has not reacted as quickly to the situation after the FAI/ISC decision as USPA did. NFTO said that a meeting is scheduled for the beginning of May, where the topic of the qualification for the next world meet will most likely be discussed.

The qualification of the British Formation Skydiving teams for the Mondial 2020 next year is not really a pressing issue. NFTO compete for their country in 4-way Women at the FAI/ISC events, even though they are the national indoor and outdoor champions in the open category, as well. NFTO are also expecting Chimera to defend their qualification status for the 4-way Open event without too much competition, even though Eros were only two points behind at last year's national championships.

The new lineup with Julia Swallow, which the NSL News introduced on February 4th, have not won a national indoor or outdoor championship title together yet, even though they have collected several as individual competitors with NFTO and other teams. This year's Wind Games was the first competition with this lineup.

Julia Swallow had competed for NFTO at last year's Wind Games, as the NSL News reported on 5 February 2019. However, she was only substituting for Anna Hicks at that time and had no plans to continue.

This changed after this year's event. Julia Swallow was filling in for Kate Lindsley this time, as the NSL News mentioned in the preview on January 4th.

Julia Swallow with Satori XL at the FAI World Meet 2016
Satori XL at the FAI Mondial 2016: 21.0 average
NFTO announced after the Wind Games 2020 that the team would continue with the same lineup, as the NSL News reported on February 4th, and nothing has changed ever since. NFTO would have two more 10-round meets with the new lineup in the team records by now without the corona virus crisis. They had planned to compete at the World Challenge and the FAI Indoor World Cup.

Both events were canceled before it was time for the Mondial 2020 to be rescheduled. The new situation caught the team somehow by surprise during the NSL Live Talk, as the discussion of the near team future began with the online conversation. The NSL News was assuming that Julia Swallow would continue with the team for another year until the Mondial 2020 in 2021.

This decision had not been made until the question came up. However, Julia Swallow was already prepared for an answer that her team mates greatly appreciated. She confirmed that she will add another year to her time with NFTO and compete with the team in Russia next year.

She also mentioned that she made her last outdoor jumps with Satori XL at the FAI World Meet 2016, more than three years ago. There she finished with a 21.0 average, a scoring level that NFTO have not posted yet. It will most likely happen this year - if outdoor competition will resume at some point...
