Did You Know...

... that Germany confirmed the current national teams for the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 next year?

Oceanside AtomiX at the German Outdoor Nationals 2019
posted May 5th, 2020 - Germany's reigning 4-way Open Class champions of the national team Oceanside AtomiX were one of the teams who connected with the NSL News via the internet for the NSL Live Talk on April 14th.

The FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 had not been canceled and rescheduled by then. Oceanside AtomiX explained for the NSL News audience how the corona virus crisis impacted life and indoor and outdoor training and competition in Germany.

The cancellation and rescheduling of the next outdoor world meet for August 2021 followed ten days after the online conversation with the German team. Just two days later, the USPA competition committee informed U.S. teams and competitors unofficially that the qualified and selected national teams after the USPA Nationals 2019 (SDC Rhythm XP, Aviatrixx, SDC Core, Airspeed XP8) would also compete for the U.S. Formation Skydiving delegation at the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 next year. Steve Hubbard, USPA Director of Competition, confirmed and explained the competition committee's decision on April 29th.

Germany's skydiving federation (DFV) did not need much longer to announce a similar decision. National coach Mathias Maushake recently informed the reigning German champions of 2019 (Oceanside AtomiX, Skynamite, Airbus 8) that they will also represent Germany next year in Tanay.

Airbus 4-way at the German Outdoor Nationals 2019
The situations in the United States and Germany are very similar in 4-way Open. Both national championships in 2019 were competitive, even though it could not have been any closer than between SDC Rhythm XP and Arizona Airspeed. However, Oceanside AtomiX had more work than expected to shake off the Airbus 4-way team and did so with a new team record average.

As for SDC Rhythm XP, it would be the first world meet for Oceanside AtomiX, after many years of determined work to get to the national top spot. There is a new national championship scheduled for 2020, which would be the qualification event for any FAI/ISC world meets or world cups under normal circumstances. However, the German federation and national coach Mathias Maushake decided to send the same teams to Tanay in 2021.

A new qualification and selection could have become competitive again. In fact, in the United States, Arizona Airspeed's new lineup defeated SDC Rhythm XP at three events after the USPA Nationals 2019 (FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019, Wind Games, Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020. In Germany, the Airbus 4-way team also continued strongly after the national outdoor championship.

However, Sarah Mertes, Thomas Mack and Alexander Prendinger need a 4th team member, just as well as SDC Rhythm XP do when Andrew Starr leaves to rejoin the Golden Knights in 4-way. Markus Bastuck, who competed for Airbus in Australia 2018, is not available any longer for intensive 4-way training and competition.

Oceanside AtomiX 2020/2021 lineup
The Airbus 3-way had Solly Williams in the lineup at the German Outdoor Nationals 2019, and Marco Arrigo competed for Airbus at the Fly Challenge at the end of February. Oceanside AtomiX is an indoor and outdoor team, as well, and they had posted a slightly higher indoor average a month earlier at the Wind Games in Spain.

The competition between the two strongest German teams later this year is not relevant any longer, which is also the same situation in the United States. Oceanside AtomiX have the security of the nomination for Tanay 2020 next year, together with Skynamite and the Airbus 8-way team.

Oceanside AtomiX team speaker Peter Ingenhaag is expecting a comeback for skydiving in Germany soon. The security of the Tanay 2020 nomination for the 2021 event will not slow down the AtomiX efforts, as Peter Ingenhaag emphasized: "That means for us again to go full throttle and train as hard as we can as soon as we are allowed to jump and tunnel again."

The German national team has all German indoor and outdoor meets on the agenda, plus the ESL Championship 2020 and the Wind Games 2021. Then they will launch the 2021 outdoor season once again with a longer outdoor training camp at Oceanside in California, as it was originally planned for this spring – before the corona virus crisis changed everything...
