Did You Know...

... that NSL TV features the new Arizona Airspeed lineup in several different ways?

Arizona Airspeed at the FAI World Meet 2018 in Australia
posted May 13th, 2020 - The new Arizona Airspeed lineup (Niklas Hemlin - Mikhail Markine - Christopher Kuhlmann - Joey Marshall - David French on camera) came together gradually. Niklas Hemlin, Mikhail Markine and Thiago Gomes lost Ari Perelman in May 2019, and Matt Davidson replaced him in the point slot at the USPA Nationals 2019, and again at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019. Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine discussed the first personnel change with the NSL News in a ZOOM conversation on 13 June 2019.

The next NSL Live Talk with Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine took place on 24 September 2019, a day after the jump-off finish and the 2nd place behind SDC Rhythm XP. They were looking forward to the rematch at the world cup, and they knew that Thiago Gomes would also be done with Airspeed training and competition after the October event. They had begun to look at options, including more time with Matt Davidson, who was ready to commit at least until the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 in August this year.

The NSL News update on 10 November 2019 then revealed that Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine were taking a closer look at Ranch 2nd Generation member Joey Marshall as a potential new Airspeed team mate. At this point in time, R2G member Christopher Kuhlmann was making 8-way plans for 2020 with Paraclete XP8.

Eventually, the new Airspeed 4-way lineup with Joey Marshall and Christopher Kuhlmann both was announced on 21 November 2019. Matt Davidson would only continue with the new Airspeed XP8 lineup, together with Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine, who committed to 4-way and 8-way until the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020.

Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine explained their decision with a new NSL Live Talk conversation on ZOOM on 27 November 2019. Then the two new Airspeed members visited Florida in January for a wind-tunnel camp at iFLY Tampa, and the NSL News had the opportunity for a conversation on January 13th.

The complete new lineup then competed for the first time at the Wind Games, two weeks after the NSL Live Talk with Joey Marshall and Christopher Kuhlmann in Tampa. They followed up with more impressive scores at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship, and the new Airspeed lineup has been a frequent NSL News topic ever since the announcement at the end of November last year.

For the NSL News and the audience, the only missing piece of the new Arizona Airspeed puzzle was a conversation with the complete new lineup. Last weekend's road trip to Paraclete XP was the perfect opportunity, with indoor team training in 4-way, and additional Airspeed XP8 outdoor training on Monday.

The NSL News collected as much video footage as possible to get the audience close to the new Airspeed lineup, and the actual conversation was both informative and entertaining.

Arizona Airspeed was using the full skydiving gear in the flying chamber, as well, even though the tunnel videos don't seem to show much of a difference compared to indoor performances without the extra weight of harness, container and parachutes. The primary Airspeed goal is once again outdoor competition.

Team captain Niklas Hemlin leaves no doubt that there is only one goal, the world championship outdoor title, which has been the traditional Airspeed goal for a long time. It will be a little while until the new lineup could be facing NMP PCH HayaBusa for a showdown at an outdoor world meet. However, there will be other events where both teams could meet each other much earlier, such as the next Shamrock Showdown in March 2021. By then, the new Airspeed lineup might have accumulated more indoor and outdoor training than the new HayaBusa lineup with Michele Silvi.

The training videos are showing a lot of B-slot training, where Joey Marshall (point) and Mikhail Markine (tail) are working the center positions.

The NSL TV Unfiltered video also features the whole Hamlin family in action. Father Niklas and son Torsten, 17 years of age, are coaching Natalie (11) and Mattias (10) who were mostly performing artistic moves. Niklas Hemlin was still mostly on his belly, at least for the tunnel time with Arizona Airspeed, with a few exceptions...
