Did You Know...

... that the Airbus 8-way lineup of 2019 will be the same in Tanay 2021?

Airbus at the German Nationals 2019
posted May 26th, 2020 - It was on April 14th when the NSL News received an update from Germany, related to the corona virus crisis. The NSL Live Talk with the German national team in 4-way Open, Oceanside AtomiX, presented the situation of the team before the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 was canceled and rescheduled for August 2021.

The NSL News followed up after the cancellation when Germany's skydiving federation (DFV) had decided to send the teams to the world meet in 2021 who had won the German Outdoor Nationals 2019. The NSL News update was once again mostly related to the national team in 4-way Open.

The same DFV decision counted for the national teams in 8-way Open and 4-way Women, as well, where Skynamite and the Airbus 8-way team will represent Germany in Tanay next year. The two national 4-way teams will have different lineups, while the Airbus 8-way team plan to compete in Tanay with the same lineup that won the qualification event.

The NSL News had reported on 27 October 2019 that Paul Hofstee replaces Mark Zimmermann For Oceanside AtomiX. The story on March 14th mentioned that Verena Juergens replaces the Janine Tillenburg/Linda Koeb/Andrea Kleinschmidt combination who were in the 4th slot last year.

Airbus at the FAI World Cup 2019
The Airbus 8-way team actually competed with a different lineup at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019, as well. Olaf Biedermann and Max Thiele have been sharing a slot since 2017.

Olaf Biedermann had the 8th slot when Airbus won the 8-way competition at the German Nationals 2019.

He was not available for the trip to Eloy little over two months later, and Max Thiele competed at the world cup. Both lineups finished with exactly the same 13.9 average after ten rounds.

Airbus have now completed their planning for the running 2020 season, and for the world meet year in 2021, as well.

The difficulty of making any plans for the 2020 season results in a light schedule with no changes of the original plans for this year. Training and competition both may happen as planned or not.

The German 8-way team will then pick up the pace again in 2021, and the lineup will be the same that won the national championships in 2019. Max Thiele steps back, and Olaf Biedermann takes the full slot. Coach Marco Arrigo will be available as the alternate if needed.

The 8-way plans for 2020 and 2021 extend Alex Prendinger's time period of double-duties for another year. He is also training with the Airbus 4-way team, where 8-way coach Marco Arrigo has taken the 4th slot that former coach Solly Williams used to have. Both Airbus teams have agreed with their team mate's double-duties, and the 8-way training and competition schedule will not be affected.

Airbus 4-way member Thomas Mack will be able to forward his experiences with double-duties to his 4-way team mate Alex Prendinger. He was the only German competitor who competed in 4-way and 8-way at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 where he helped out when 8-way member Thomas Spielvogel was injured shortly before the competition in Australia.

The Airbus 8-way team will meet the Qatar Falcons again in Tanay 2021 at the latest, most likely earlier. Both teams have shared 8-way leaderboards at the last four meets that Airbus have attended. The Qatar Falcons have been dealing with personnel changes, as well, as the NSL News reported earlier.

The reigning FAI 8-way bronze medalists of Australia 2018 finally had their complete lineup back together at their 2019/2020 winter training camps at Skydive City. Then the corona virus crisis locked up all Tigers and Falcons in Qatar without any indoor or outdoor training opportunities...
