... that the corona virus crisis denied NMP PCH HayaBusa the chance for a special achievement?

FAI Gold in Australia 2014
posted Jun 1st, 2020 - The NSL News covered the potential of a new historic achievement in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition in December 2017. It was almost a year before the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia, where NMP PCH HayaBusa won the third consecutive set of gold medals for Belgium.

Three members of the current HayaBusa lineup (Dennis Praet, David and Andy Grauwels) eventually did what no other 3-way had achieved until then: winning three consecutive 4-way titles together (2014 - 2016 - 2018). The winning streak was supposed to continue in Tanay 2020, where the same Belgian 3-way could have caught up with French competitors Eric Fradet and Philippe Schorno, who won gold in 1987 - 1989 - 1991 - 1993.

In fact, the 4th consecutive 4-way gold medal for Belgium in Russia this year would have accomplished an additional unique success, above and beyond tying France with four consecutive 4-way world championship titles.

NMP PCH HayaBusa's lineup of 2015 - 2019 (Jeroen Nollet, Dennis Praet, David and Andy Grauwels) would have become the first 4-way team in history winning three consecutive world meet gold medals.

Arizona Airspeed's original lineup (1995 - 1997) and France with two different lineups between 1987 and 1993 were the only 4-way teams in history who defended their titles successfully.

Jeroen Nollet, Dennis Praet, David and Andy Grauwels were on their way to defend their 4-way title for the second time in Tanay 2020 and make new history before the corona virus crisis changed the HayaBusa plans.

The NSL Live Talk with all HayaBusa members but team videographer Luc van Britsom on May 18th revealed that the planned change in the HayaBusa lineup will now be executed earlier than planned. Michele Silvi replaces David Grauwels who moves to the camera slot.

The new HayaBusa lineup still has the opportunity to tie the French record of four consecutive 4-way gold medals next year in Tanay. However, it will take a little while until another team could win three 4-way titles with the same lineup. Only Dennis Praet and Andy Grauwels are left to match Eric Fradet and Philippe Schorno with four consecutive 4-way gold medals, disregarding David Grauwels on camera.

Jeroen Nollet could still match the 3-way record that Dennis Praet, David and Andy Grauwels set in Australia 2018 with their three consecutive gold medals. He won world meet gold in 2016 and 2018 and could be in a second Belgian 3-way with three consecutive 4-way titles.

FAI Gold in Australia 2018
Andy Grauwels is now the only original HayaBusa member in the active lineup. His potential record partner with four consecutive 4-way titles, Dennis Praet, joined the active HayaBusa lineup in 2011.

Original member David Grauwels is still a very important team member on camera, and he will also receive his own FAI medal in the new slot. The NSL News has been disregarding the team videographers in the medal count, despite the important role that team videographers are playing in 4-way competition.

United States (8), France (7) and Belgium (3) are the only three countries that have won 4-way gold medals in Formation Skydiving history since 1985. Four consecutive 4-way titles is the record number so far, which NMP PCH HayaBusa could match for Belgium next year at the FAI Mondial in Tanay.

The new lineup with Michele Silvi begin their medal count from scratch next year. However, they have plans for a longer time period, and there are also other records to be broken. Dennis Praet and Andy Grauwels could even go beyond four consecutive 4-way titles if they win next year and then continue with the new lineup...
