Did You Know...

... that Anna Hicks, Laura Hampton and Joey Jones provided a live update from Great Britain?

NSL Live Talk with Chimera on April 12th
posted Jun 15th, 2020 - The NSL News had discussed the corona virus crisis with the two national 4-way teams from Great Britain in April. The first NSL Live Talk with Chimera was published on April 12th. NFTO followed up two weeks later on April 27th.

The discussion with Chimera was not related to the cancellation of the FAI Mondial 2020, which was officially announced later in April. Topic was mainly the new Chimera lineup and the plans for the near future. The online interview with NFTO covered the team's new lineup with Julia Swallow, as well. However, the cancellation and rescheduling of the outdoor world meet and the implications for teams and events was the main topic at the end of April.

Joey Jones, player-coach for the British 4-way team Eros, and Gary Smith then discussed the situation after the cancellation of the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020 and the rescheduling for August 2021 in the NSL Coaches Corner on April 29th. This discussion was not only related to the British teams and covered the new situation from many different angles.

The latest NSL Live Talk online was recorded on Sunday last weekend. This time, NFTO member Anna Hicks, Chimera's Laura Hampton and Joey Jones discussed mostly the current situation in Great Britain, where Formation Skydiving teams and competitors have also been waiting for a restart of training and competition.

The status of the British national teams was still unclear at the end of April. The British Parachute Association had not decided how to select the national teams for the rescheduled FAI Mondial when the previous NSL Live Talk conversations with Chimera and NFTO took place in April.

Sundays online update from Great Britain confirmed that the British Parachute Association has decided in the meantime to send the same Formation Skydiving delegation to Tanay next year that would have competed at the world meet this year.

Chimera represent Great Britain in 4-way Open, NFTO in 4-way Women, MicroClim8 is the national 8-way team for 2021.

Anna Hicks and Laura Hampton also confirmed that the British Parachute Association has officially canceled this year's national championship.

Skydive Hibaldstow, annual host of the event, plan to offer a competition this summer, which is supposed to be a substitute event for teams who are interested in attending under conditions and restrictions that are not exactly known at this point in time.

The situation is similar to the one in the United States where the outcome of the USPA Nationals 2020 has no impact on the Formation Skydiving delegation for the world meet next year.

Great Britain and United States also have in common that both countries have two different sanctioning organizations for indoor and outdoor competition. Neither British Parachute Association (BPA) nor Unites States Parachute Association (USPA) regulate and sanction indoor competition.

British Indoor Skydiving Association (BISA) and United States Indoor Skydiving (USIS) use World Challenges and Paraclete XP Indoor Championships as their qualification events to sanction national teams for FAI/ISC indoor events, such as indoor world meets and world cups.

The U.S. 4-way teams (Arizona Airspeed in 4-way Open, XPG4 in 4-way Women) were able to complete their event in February at Paraclete XP and qualify as the national teams for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2020 in Belgium and the FAI Indoor World Meet 2021 in Slovakia.

The World Challenge 2020 had to be canceled, and the status of the British teams for the indoor world cup in October is unclear. Anna Hicks and Laura Hampton said that BISA consider running an indoor qualification event for the FAI Indoor World Meet 2021 later this year. Twinwoods Adventure have been hosting the Revenge annually in October since 2013. The Revenge could become the new indoor qualification event for British 4-way teams.
